As a retired white teacher I am so disgusted about this I Could scream.

The last couple of years my job was out in the community , and I would be out with women who are black. Try it. You will be surprised. I worked with Native women as well. People can be so special.

I fought for women's rights in the early 70's. Younger women probably do not understand what it was like .

I have been married over forty years , and I do not tolerate men talking down to me. My hubby does not tolerate men disrespecting women. With two daughters, he is not amused.

I am an American. The police are PUBLIC SERVANTS. They are not the KGB or the army of the Third Reich . People fearing for their lives and groveling? Seriously?

Who do these PEACE OFFICERS think they are?

If teachers can be taught how to deal and talk with volatile students, peace officers can also learn that being a control freak gains you nothing but contempt.

Respect cannot be taken. It can only be given.

He treated the white woman like a queen, and the black woman like a criminal. How is that a huge leap?

It's especially not a huge leap when you consider the history of racism in Waller County.

“This is the most racist county in the state of Texas which is probably one of the most racist states in the country,” DeWayne Charleston, a former Waller County judge, told The Guardian.

I agree. They work for US (or are supposed to) and there is no law saying we have to respect them. Yes, it's a nice thing to do in polite society, but we're completely within our rights to question them and refuse to obey unlawful orders.

Recently a friend of mine was visited by some officers who wanted to enter home. They did not have a warrant. She refused to let them enter (as is her right!). Instead of leaving and getting a warrant they stayed and harassed her. They tried to intimidate her and verbally abused her, and they threatened her "If we have to leave and come back it's just going to be worse for you." They were out of line but I know some people would think she should have just let them in.

If a fire truck is behind you do you signal and pull over, or just pull over immediately?

Always use your turn signal in that situation. I learned that when I was a kid and learning to drive. I was in the left lane when an ambulance came up fast behind me. As soon as I saw the flashing red light in my mirror, I panicked and swerved to the right lane, at the same time the ambulance driver did the same thing. It forced the ambulance onto the shoulder to avoid hitting me. I have never let that happen again. I always signal my intention to pull over.

Just using your post as a jump off, during the first girl he gave a warning to when she pulled away and back onto the road she did not use her blinker from being in park to getting back on the road. Why did he not pull her over again for not using the blinker? I ask this as I live on a major road and see many people pulled over in front of my house due to the speed changing from 50 to 80km, and I've seen cars pull away and get pulled over immediately agin for not using that blinker. Just something that seemed odd to me. As well when driving and a police car pulls a u turn and gets behind me I always feel immediately like they are coming for me (almost never the case), yes she should have followed the rules of the road for lane changing but the outcome has been horrific and heartbreaking.

I generally don't see American cops pull over a driver a second time for something like that. Though I once got pulled over a second time because the cop wanted to double check what he put on the ticket.

I have a question. When someone commits a minor traffic offense and a police car is driving behind them and he suspects maybe the
person is drunk, or high or up to something.

Doesn't he pull them over? Then he begins to observe the situation, asking a normal question, looking in the vehicle, checking to see
if the person is okay?

If you are smoking a cig and he asks you to put it out, because a cig can be a distraction being used by the driver to conceal their breath, or their state of mind, or just the cig is distracting and right now you need to just focus on the officer.

The officer had already written her the ticket, and had returned to her car to have her sign it. Any investigation like what you describe would have been done the first time he looked in her car.

How did he know she wasn't a criminal? I don't understand how you put all of this on the cop. He doesn't know who she is when he stopped her!

Actually yes he does know all of that. The first thing a cop does is runs the license plate number through his computer. Then he knows everything about the car and the owner of the car. Only then does he approach the car and get the driver's license. He returns to his car and runs that through the computer. Then he knows everything about the driver of the car, if different from the owner of the car. So yes, he knew everything about her at that point, including what she had been arrested for.

He knew she wasn't a criminal at that point. But he didn't care. He just wanted to harass a black woman.

Since SB was in jail for three days.. did her family or friends call the jail or visit and let them (LE) know she was suicidal ?
Just wondering since they are obviously devastated now, but did they request SB be on a 24-hour suicide watch ?
:moo:

Her family and friends were in a different state, so not they did not visit her.

OT: I agree with you when you say that younger women probably do not understand what it was like in the early 70's. I graduated HS in 1974 and remember when I was applying for an office job. One of the questions on the application was "When was your last menstrual period?" and "What are you going to do with your child while you are at work?" My first marriage was when I was 17. (Bad home life). I had one more year of high school when my husband and I moved to a different city. When I was registering for school in my new city, I had to have my husband's permission/signature to enroll!! I tried to go to UTEP but my husband made too much money for me to get a grant/loan even so, could not even have my own credit. Husband beat the crap out of me and did not get arrested. Cops took me out of my home, not the abusive husband. No such thing as marital rape back then. Helen Reddy kept me sane.

:) HELLO PEEPS!!!!! I am still asking the same question which has not been addressed :

WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A TRASH BAG IN A JAIL CELL?????????????

Incompetence. They have as much admitted it, and removed the trash bags.

This is worse than incompetence IMO. First thing they do before they put you in a cell is remove your shoelaces. Yet for some reason in this particular cell anyway, they have a great big ol trash can with a great big ol garbage bag.

How exactly would a prisoner accumulate any garbage let alone enough to fill up a bag that big? Doesn't make sense IMO

Did you watch the video? He dragged her out of the frame. He was yanking her around by her handcuffs, and she was complaining that he was hurting her wrists.

Yes, I watched it and to me, it seemed as if she was the one who initially move out of frame. She kicked officer, it's not as if she was complying completely. Re: handcuffs, I cannot say if true or not.

Disagree on her moving out of frame -- even the audio disputes you there.

And as for the 'kicking' incident -- we have only the officer's word on that, and based on his performance during the arrest, I see no reason to believe him without further evidence. And frankly, even if she kicked him, I don't think she should be charged, and I still think he should be fired (and perhaps charged as well), based only on what we do know definitively from the dash-cam.

Something stinks about this whole case. Things don't add up. She leaves a voicemail, giving all indication that she "will be here"...then ends up dead. She never should have been arrested in the first place. And how did she get an industrial-sized trash bag into her cell to hang herself?

I smell coverup.

I'm sorry. It's so unfair and wrong it happened like that. I'm glad you at least had Helen to help you through.
