'Sniper' shooter found dead on rooftop.

Three victims in critical condition.

Sorry to hear about yet another shooting, but relieved this is situation "resolved" quickly and more people won't be shot and a community won't be on edge with a sniper on the loose.

Now we await to hear who this perp was....

I'm curious how long the sniper was up there - did he (assuming male) know when detainees would be there? Are ICE movements on a daily routine and he timed his shooting? Or just wait for any opportunity to come along? Did he just want to shoot anyone or specific people?

If it was detainees who were shot, I wonder if the motive had something to do with anti-immigrant sentiments. What a horrible tragedy, whatever the motive. What sort of coward shoots at people who are already imprisoned?

Maybe his shot was not accurate and he meant to shoot officers?

If he was aiming at detainees, that would seem like a personal motive? idk.

So far, this doesn't make much sense. But, then again, what shooting does?

I am curious as to shooter's motive. With shooter dead we may never know if this was a targeted attack on those specific detainees, or random or a failed attempt to shoot ICE agents? Have they released the shooter's name yet? Any info on the detainees and what criminal offense they might have been in custody for (if one aside from being here undocumented)? Wondering if this was targeted due to something those detainees did or knew about another individual or criminal enterprise.

That is ballsy as all get out to attack an ICE facility JMO

‘Although the sniper appeared to target migrants in ICE custody, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote on X that the shooting represented an attack on ICE and law enforcement. ’

So, it does appear migrants were his targets. Unsure why it’s being portrayed by the Texas AG as an attack on law enforcement, other than the fact that it occurred at a law enforcement facility…

If this was a criminal enterprise, I would think the sniper would attempt escape, not turn gun on self. But I don't know, of course.

Came to websleuths to catch up on this because the posts on social media are truly unreadable. What kind of a country are we if we have completely moved away from the shock and horror of shootings and we just start saying ‘Your guy did it.’ ‘No, your guy did it!’

I am so heartsick and I don’t know how we can move forward as a nation from here.

But thank you to @Tricia and all the hardworking mods for keeping this site respectful and rational <3

thank you this info is helpful

The sniper, who police sources described as a white man, shot himself dead as law enforcement agents closed in on him, Fox4 reported. He is believed to have been perched on the roof of a nearby immigration attorney's office, WFAA reported.

The identities of the sniper and victims have not been released and Noem said investigators were still probing a possible motive.
Multiple fatalities after 'SNIPER' opens fire at Dallas ICE facility

So, why target brown people already detained and in custody if this was motivated by a strong anti immigrant belief or anger about the undocumented in this country? Seems like if that was motive then someone who had such views would target folks NOT already in custody and face much less possible interference from authorities than to take it to an ICE facility?

Very bizarre, awaiting more info hoping that will make it make more sense.

Another question - did the sniper attack this group specifically at the ICE building or would he have shot at anyone who happened to arrive within target range?

Seems like there are businesses along that stretch. (Maybe a local can chime in.) Would arriving employees at other businesses have been targeted if they happened to arrive first?

I made assumptions at the start of this and am backing off until we know who this shooter was and/if he has connections to the victims or if he has certain views that he was expressing through murder (sick as that is). Many unknowns at this point.

My guess would be because it's easier to find a bunch of people who are confined and unarmed and presumably undocumented immigrants in an ICE facility than just about anywhere else. But, you raise good questions.

This is another hotbutton issue, folks. I ask kindly that we lock in and keep the thread about the facts on the ground and not a discussion of politics.

If we choose to remove some comments, please know we're not picking sides, we're just focusing on the crime.
