~~~~~
In the video report by Katie McCall during the 5pm CDT News (above Link), she indicated there would be more about the video statement Mona Nelson gave to HPD at 6:30 p.m.
As of this time (posting), the video from the 6 pm News (8/20/13) has not been posted to KTRK (ABC)'s homepage. Perhaps it will be posted later today (8/21/13).
I recorded the 6 PM News (8/20/13). The report from Katie McCall starts at 6:28 pm. Prior to her report, the Anchor Gina Gaston stated that Mona Nelson gave a 1 hour 18 minute statement to police (HPD -Houston Police Dept).
Katie McCall said tomorrow (which is now today, 8/21/13) three people who are going to testify are from out of town and are Expert Witnesses. They will be testifying out of order. Then it is expected the remainder of the taped interview with Mona Nelson and HPD will be played.
Part of Katie McCall's report:
From the Nelson Video Statement - December, 2010:
Mona Nelson: "I jumped out and just manhandled it... I grabbed it and dumped it over the side and it went over."
12 year old Jonathan Foster's body was charred beyond recognition and found face down in the grass with no can in sight. Homicide detectives did not buy Nelson's story but there is one part of her statement that they did believe and that was the unique odor she said was coming from the can.
Mona Nelson - December, 2010: "It was like a sweet smell, not like a candy sweet, but a smell I'd never smelled before."
Sgt. Brian Harris testified that he investigated 8 cases that involved the burning of a human body and said Mona Nelson had precisely identified the smell that occurs when human flesh is burned.
Sgt. Brian Harris - HPD Homicide: "It's almost like a sweet, sweet mesquite smell and it's been consistent on all of these burned bodies.
I was thinking I know exactly what she's talking about. I was thinking she's describing Jonathan."
The above is partial info from Katie McCall's report starting at 6:28 pm ( from a segment of the 6 pm News I recorded via TV on Tuesday, 8/20/13.) Therefore, I have no Link. However, here is a Link to the Homepage of the source, KTRK (ABC) - Houston, TX:
I am hoping the video from the 6 pm News (8/20/13) will be posted by KTRK today, 8/21/13.
I may have this wrong. I wonder what Mona's mental acuity is?
I am remembering something about her iq wasn't she close to the 80 or 70 percentile?
Hi, believe09!
The mainstream media (Houston) has never reported about Mona Nelson's mental acuity or her IQ.
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- For the first time since the Mona Nelson trial started, the court heard the voice of the accused child killer. Prosecutors played a videotaped interview where Nelson admits she was at the scene where 12-year-old Jonathan Foster's body was found. Today members of the FBI will testify about additional evidence linked to the case.
If her mental acuity or IQ are in question, we may have the key as to why the DP was not pursued.
does anyone know if there is any trial live streaming this week? I thought the VA case would be; it's only video and same here. I am real curious as to why the live feeds have been dropped in several of these cases and we are given video; instead. And then sometimes no video at all. Can't catch up on day two without the rest of the video's posted. :(
someone asked for a link as to why MSM main stream media *national or otherwise* has not broadcast or covered this case. I've seen several stories yesterday and today about things would be different if she were white so I've decided against posting any of those articles which you can all google for. The reasons that I'm seeing are race related as well as how gruesome her crime was. I'm really shocked at the lack of coverage, taped or otherwise.
Texas courts historically eschew live streaming of trials
Goes back to the Billie Sol Estes case in the 60's
I went and googled info about Billie Sol Estes, and his winning his appeal because of too much publicity about the court case. Thanks, Kantoo, for providing that bit of info. I Learn something new everyday here on ws.
I just wanted to let you all know that I spoke to the cemetery just a few moments ago about Jonathan's plot having a headstone or marker. He DOES NOT have one! So my mission now is to make sure he has one, just like his final resting place. Hope it's ok to post this here, if not please let me know where I can put it. Thanks.
i was reading about that earlier today and that is horrific, he has no tombstone??
New DNA evidence introduced in Houston woman's capital murder trial
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- New revelations are coming from testimony in the murder of a 12-year-old boy. Three forensic scientists took the stand on Wednesday, testifying about the evidence in the Mona Nelson trial. She's charged with capital murder. Prosecutors are pointing out newly introduced DNA evidence.
Snipped:
Forensic examiner Shane Hoffman testified that a shoulder area tested "positive for blood...that matched Mona Nelson." Further testing turned up Nelson's "DNA on the collar and wrist areas" of the sweatshirt.
For one of the DNA tests, the witness even said the chance of it being anyone else's DNA was what's considered a statistical impossibility.
Snipped:
"Powerful evidence for the state. All of this is very powerful evidence for the state. It's enough to legally convict, from a judge's perspective, this is enough to legally convict," he said.
From Ann-TX link:
In spite of the size of the child's sweatshirt, and the size of the defendant, defense attorney Alan Tanner suggested Nelson may have put it on:
Tanner: "Could it be from her possibly wearing that sweatshirt?"
Really? Did he really say that?
I think he overplayed his hand on that one. He could have found a million explanations for the transfer of DNA-delving into the theater of the absurd should not have been his first choice. Sheesh.
i was reading about that earlier today and that is horrific, he has no tombstone??
That would be correct. I've talked with my mom and she told me to find one and we would make it happen, so that is my mission. I think what would be the best thing ever is if I was able to take it down there myself! I will be going to Louisiana next month, I wonder if we could finagle that? I'll keep y'all posted!
I hope that maybe today we find out where MN's blood came from that was also found on the shirt. I know it was just a little bit of blood, but they have never mentioned a cut on MN when she was arrested. They just showed her face in the mug shot.
(If anyone remembers reading about a cut, can you just mention it? I will look it up).
