<modsnip>

But teachers should be focused on teaching. Not being LE, IMO.

Teachers are regular people. And regular people make too many mistakes. Regular people can have mental health issues. <modsnip>

In addition, when someone conceal-carry’s,there tends to be a hyper alertness, a totally different mindset (in my experience). Ready for battle.

The thought of arming teachers for battle is insane to me. Backup should be trained LE and they should do their job and be paid well to do it.

No way in hell would I want teachers armed in my kid’s classroom. Even if they had “training.” What training? What re-training? Any tests? Who would oversee that? There’s just way too much room for not only liability but fatal error.

There are just way too many accidents and killings with guns that are owned by people who have been trained in their use and safety. Huge amounts. Every day.

And what about when some crazy student decided to overpower a teacher and take their gun?

This idea is a perilous, illogical one, IMO. The only people who should be tasked with going to war with the bad guys in order to protect the public are those for whom that is their sole responsibility.

We don’t need more guns in school.

all excellent points.

But isn't this Safety Department superior in authority to Uvalde Police?
Yes, the DPS is State level law enforcement and the Uvalde police are a local agency.

But.....

Local law enforcement agencies are autonomous. They are are not subordinated to State level agencies in a formal chain of command. Rather, the higher rank of the State agency is largely honorific- and does not truly need to be heeded.

In the end, the State Level agency cant really compel cooperation unless the matter becomes a criminal inquiry and is supported by subpoenas and other Court orders.

Thank you for explaining.
As a foreigner I wasn't sure about this matter.

I trust surveillance will answer the question one way or another because it sure sounded to me from the director of DPS that two teachers were involved. The first teacher that went outside before the shooter drove up and crashed, and the second teacher per the linked news. I dunno ... it doesn't appear to me that the second teacher could be the same teacher that the SRO encountered in the car park. Also, if the door was known to be unlocked, as some alleged, there'd be no reason to use a rock to prop it open. JMO
I would have expected that door to be one of those that locks or is always in lock status from the outside.... seems every few hours the story varies and more information will be forthcoming.

I don't think "communication" is his strong point as he bragged about in his campaign for City Council.

Disturbing new video obtained by The Post shows demented Robb Elementary School shooter Salvador Ramos grinning as he holds up a bag of blood-soaked dead cats.

The deranged 18-year-old gunman is seen smiling in the undated footage while sitting in the passenger seat of a pal’s car — holding up a clear plastic bag with at least two bloodied cats visible inside.

Why wasn't he reported to the LE a long time ago?

Hearing Miah, in her sweet child’s voice, recount the horror of the shooting starkly highlights the brutal reality. Goosebumps.

Who knows? Maybe the same reason the Buffalo shooter could post all about his plan on the discord server and either no one noticed, or no one cared.

And whoever had that photo of him and the bag then sold it to the Post is a slimeball too.

I have thought about this and talked to some 4th graders that I tutor (they are home-schooled) and come to me 3-4 times a week. They even mentioned this - especially the boys (who are gamers).

Columbine happened in 1999 - we started active shooter drills in the schools shortly after this.

This means we have now raised an entire generation in the schools that have participated in these drills. They are as common as fire drills and they all know what to do.

As they become teenagers they start reading online about the previous shootings. SOME (these are the ones) become so obsessed with them - well, they want to "copy" that - they see it as a competition - "I can get more......" And they can because they already know what the schools do when an active shooter is in the building. That's why even locking the doors anymore won't matter - they know it and shoot their way in. They all carry these high velocity, high capacity, assault guns because they need the firepower and they know they have the regular cops out-gunned. They are getting smarter.

Education has to change - our "education centers" have to change.

JMHO

We can’t, and shouldn’t, push the responsibility to the kids and teachers. Even to the police, only to a degree. <modsnip> By pushing the responsibility to the teacher, to the police, we are dragging it away from the glaring problem.

I was thinking about that German teenager, Cece. She is living in the country where guns are not so commonplace, she probably didn’t understand it was not a joke when he posted “going to shoot the school”. After she heard, she had to ask her US friend to call the police. I think kids here would have guessed it was not a joke, but she lives in a normal world where things like this don’t happen day by day. Now her world is maimed and destroyed, too.

Well apparently those on City Council are not taking this horrific shooting seriously enough. This man is partially, if not totally responsible for the failure of the police to act timely and appropriately under his authority. It is a slap in the face of those who lost loved ones, that this man was sworn in as city council member. It is outrageous.

Probably because kids these days, especially teenagers, have become so desensitized to violence in general. Whether its on the news, in those God awful video games they play, or even in their own homes (or homes of friends). Look, even his co-workers at Wendy's had nicknamed him "school shooter" - as a joke mind you - see how they even joke about it.

Someone shows me a video of a kid holding a bag of dead, bloodied cats - well I'm doing something. But, again, teenagers, even if they want to do something, think about it, and become afraid that if they do - well that sicko may just come after them.

My question to this video is "who is this FRIEND he was with"? I sure hope the authorities are talking to him extensively. He's just lucky I ain't his family.....................................

I think that these incels have very little following. This is one of the reasons they do it. To get known. Another issue: the agenda and the audience where they post it. Brevik, too, had a political agenda (anti-immigration), so he still has supporters.

I've only read posts here and there so this may already have been addressed.

From my own experience as a teacher: The big heavy metal doors swing "shut" but they also have to "latch.'' The latch has to catch correctly in order to lock. It sound like the door didn't latch, and therefore, didn't lock.

At my last school, I remember one particular door did not always latch closed. The administration cautioned us, to always pull that door shut and check that it was fully closed. Why didn't they get it fixed? I'm sure they had a work order in. That doesn't mean it's going to be fixed immediately.

I read elsewhere some reasons why a door like that might not latch. Warped, wasn't plumb, etc.

People who have never worked in schools may not understand the thousands of details it takes to run a school. There are so many fires to put out on a daily basis, in addition to the routine.

I deleted the rest of my post because it was basically a description of how school staff is always multi-tasking. Always with the thought of meeting student's needs.

I am troubled by a post that the teacher who propped the door should lose their job and move away.

OMG. Was this on his SM page? Did his family not see anything he had posted on there? Perhaps he had it hidden from all of them.

If I remember correctly, Buffalo shooter also brutally killed a cat and his mother knew (even gave him a box to bury the poor animal).

Everything starts at home.
