Wasn't there meant to be a presser about now?

So, how does anyone know that he was known to intel, if he has not been identified? Or is that just a rumour?

I've seen that too. It could be a rumor, and it could also be from a source speaking anonymously with some inside knowledge. Hard to know at this point. I'm trying to track down an MSM source for that info.

If they are saying it is possibly a suicide bomber, then doesn't that mean that they did not find a a bomb in a garbage can or a duffel bag or a rice cooker hidden in a speaker, etc...

It seems like it might have been a suicide bomber ?

Here's what we don't know:

Who did this.
If this was a terrorist attack.
How the explosion happened.

These videos from the venue are just painful. I worked on Capitol Hill during/after 9-11. There were a number of times afterward that we had to run screaming from our offices (due to false alarms). No matter how "cool under pressure" you are - that panic is unstoppable.

Statement from Assistant Chief Constable of the British Transport Police

"As the public would expect in response to an incident such as this, extra BTP officers will be on patrol at key railway stations as well as on trains around the country. Throughout the day, commuters can expect to see additional officers on their journey. This will include both armed and unarmed officers.

My officers are there to reassure concerned members of the public and we’d ask people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour by calling the anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789 123.

Until known otherwise, police are treating this as a terrorist incident. Incidents such as this will undoubtedly shock the nation, however, it is essential we stand together in unity against those who try to disrupt our lives.

Manchester Victoria station remains closed, with services being heavily disrupted or suspended, we continue to urge people to avoid the area whilst the recovery efforts continue. We advise morning commuters to check with Transport for Greater Manchester, National Rail Enquiries and Northern before travelling."

We don't yet know who did it or how the explosion happened.

But we do know it was a terrorist attack. What brand of terrorism, still unknown.

From U.S. Department of Homeland Security

The U.S. government late Monday said it was “closely monitoring the situation” in Manchester Arena and working with its counterparts in the U.K. to gain more information on what transpired.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, said it wasn’t aware of “a specific credible threat involving music venues” in the U.S. Still, it said that “the public may experience increased security in and around public places and events as officials take additional precautions.”
The bombing comes as the Department for Homeland Security is considering widening to Europe a ban on carrying large electronic devices, such as laptops, I the cabin of U.S.-bound planes for fear terrorists are trying to smuggle bombs onboard in consumer devices.
DHS said it was ready to the U.K. in “all ways necessary” to investigate the incident.

On the BBC, an injured victim named Gary Walker said that a man walked in and then there was just this awful explosion. He said he immediately felt pain in his foot. He turned to his wife and she said 'I need to lie down.' She has a stomach wound and possibly a broken leg. He said there were nuts/bolts etc. packed into the bomb. So that is one witness's description, take it for what you will.

This feels too close to home- the people frantically calling their loved one's phones, not getting an answer, knowing what that likely means but desperately holding on to a slim hope.

It makes me sick to my stomach.

God bless them.

I will never forget frantically trying to find the status of a friend who was definitely in the Pentagon on 9-11 (he was okay) with cell networks not working. It was many hours of fear until we knew for sure. I hate that these parents and friends are waiting for word of loved ones. God bless them, indeed.

[h=3]Distraught, waiting by the phone[/h]

Manchester resident Charlotte Campbell told CNN her 15-year-old daughter, Olivia, went to the concert with a friend, and neither had been in contact since the explosion.

"We've tried everything we can. They're telling us to wait by the phones. Her dad is out looking. ... It's the most horrible feeling ever, to know your daughter is there and you don't know whether she's dead or alive," she said.

Through tears, Campbell said she didn't know how anyone could do this to "innocent children."

"I want her home and I want her safe. ... I just want her to walk through the door."

Manchester blast witness: 'Bodies scattered about everywhere'

Eyewitness Karen Ford had taken her 13-year-old daughter to the concert.

"It was mayhem on the street, there were children crying, trying to get in touch with parents, parents on their phones trying to contact their kids," she said, adding that cell connection was poor as so many people were using their phones simultaneously.

"I brought my baby home, which some people won't be (able to do) tonight."

They were just kids, probably so very excited to attend this concert, having the time of their lives as they should, hope they did enjoy every second, every single one.

Andy James, a witness, said he heard an explosion and ran out of the arena with 9-year-old brother in his arms. Screaming fans streamed out of the arena along with him.

"The sound rattled my chest," James said. "I looked up and saw everyone start to scream and run back down the stairs."

It was the first concert that James' brother had been to. The tickets were an early birthday present, James said. The concert had just finished when the chaos started.

"The stewards were trying to calm people down but everyone was running in a stampede," recalled James, who made his way out of the arena through another exit. James said he believed he heard a second explosion as they were running out.

His brother's heart was "beating out of his chest," he said.

It's the worst. What did these poor people do to anyone? I know the earth itself sighed with grief when it happened. The sudden, shocking, senseless loss.
