Having looked at the BBC footage again, it suggests the Delaney lorry was going North, from Chippenham and stopped in the lay-by just before the junction with the M4. Past the entrance to Day's Lane, Kington Langley.

Quite how this squares with the statement he was on his way from Calais to Dover ... widely copied in the MSM is a little puzzling.
I would guess that's just bad reporting. He had travelled from Calais to Dover, not "was travelling from Calais to Dover" as that Irish link has it.

Reports now suggest he was on his way from Dover to Pembroke ... and heard the knocking and pulled off the motorway ... still a little odd ... implies he turned off the M4 towards Chippenham, then turned round on the A350 to point back on again?

I also see a report that the driver has been released.

And the 15 migrants arrested.

Interesting how many news sources simply repeat such stories .. without apparently even thinking.

Northern Ireland pair wanted by Essex police unfazed by raids - BelfastTelegraph.co.uk

Two brothers who English police want to question over the deaths of 39 people in the back of a truck in Essex last month were present in their Co Monaghan homes yesterday when armed gardaí raided the properties.

Ronan Hughes (40) and his brother Christopher (34) are wanted on suspicion of manslaughter and human trafficking by Essex Police, but the UK authorities have not obtained European arrest warrants for the pair.

The brothers were present at their homes in Tyholland during the raid and senior sources say the duo were unfazed about the huge Garda operation which started at around 6am.

Gardaí were unable to arrest the brothers as they have not received a warrant from English police.

"They were very calm. They showed no concern despite what the English police have said about them," a senior source said. "These lads are not on the run, they are not in hiding - they are living their life and operating their jobs as they always have.

"There is no arrest warrant for them here and they were not bothered that gardaí were searching their house at all - it was an attitude of, 'if there is something illegal here, find it'."

Nothing illegal was discovered at the properties linked to the Hughes brothers but a number of vehicles were seized, including a Mitsubishi SUV registered to Mo Robinson - the Co Armagh truck driver already charged with 39 counts of manslaughter in Essex.

Police claim Robinson drove the cab of the truck to the English port of Purfleet, where it collected the trailer unit, which had arrived by ferry from Zeebrugge port in Belgium.

Also seized during the searches were a 192-registered X5 BMW M Sport, a 2016 X5 BMW, a 2014 2.8-litre VW transporter crew cab, financial documents and records and electronic devices as well as sums of €1,400, $900 and £600 in cash. However, no arrests were made and no stolen vehicles recovered.

Gardaí said in a statement that a number of restraining orders relating to accounts in financial institutions had been made by a district court judge under money laundering and terrorist financing legislation.

Last Tuesday, Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) officers detained a Northern Ireland-registered tractor unit and curtain-side trailer at Dublin Port. The CAB also detained a Bulgarian-registered tractor unit and curtain-side trailer at the same time.

The CAB said the raids were not linked to the Essex case.

Meanwhile, British police have released on bail three other people they had arrested in connection with their investigation, pending further inquiries.

In Dublin, a 22-year-old man is facing extradition proceedings to bring him to the UK to face manslaughter charges. Eight people have been arrested by police in Vietnam on suspicion of involvement in human smuggling. The CAB is also securing orders from a district court judge to freeze slightly more than €200,000 being held in 19 bank and credit union accounts.

So the Hughes aren't on the run, from the cops or, as reported, from gangsters but seemingly happily residing at home when raided.
Unless they popped out of hiding briefly to see what was happening at home during the raid, then popped back into hiding again once the (search) party was concluded.

This case is absolute bonkers as far as the brothers are concerned. One minute they are wanted by police and missing. Next they 'reportedly' arent on the run from the police, but gang lords. Now finally they arent on the run at all but cosily tucked up at home running trucks as normal? I dont understand.

  • #507
And they own the cab that dropped the trailer off at Zeebrugge, the cab that picked it up at Tilbury, and hired the trailer.... Meanwhile Eamon Harrison WAS able to be arrested without the European warrant and kept for questioning over his role driving the cab even though he was apprehended in Dublin...

It is all very mysterious.

Bonkers and brazen!
I do not understand why there is a delay in getting a European Arrest Warrant, can anyone explain?

I wonder if the CAB were frustrated that their year-long investigation into smuggling had been blown open by the publicity around the Essex case. I wonder about the 'message' that was apparently relayed to EH that he and his family were under a severe threat...by the Irish authorities, I wonder why there appears to be no co-operation between the Essex Police, the PSNI and the Irish CAB and Gardai , or at least a lack of coherency between their various PR outlets. And why these raids took place more than two weeks after the brothers were named as having involvement in the vehicles associated with the Essex deaths. No wonder they weren't concerned about what there was (left) to find!

Smoke and mirrors everywhere. Which is probably understandable.

I'm not surprised that they never found anything of much interest!! after all they had two weeks to clean up any evidence they had!!!!

“It remained of paramount importance to us to ensure that an individual’s next of kin were informed, and that they were given some time to absorb this tragic news before we publicly confirmed their loved one’s identity.

“We have worked closely with the National Crime Agency, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the Vietnamese Authorities to identify and locate their families.

Consultation is underway with regard to the repatriation of those who have died, with the Vietnamese and UK governments working together to achieve this.

The Identification Commission

The Identification Commission’s purpose is to establish whether there is sufficient evidence to confirm someone’s identity, and is made up of a series of processes which include but are not limited to fingerprints, DNA, medical or dentistry documentation and distinctive markings such as tattoos and scars.

It is for HM Senior Coroner to set the criteria which must be met before they are satisfied that a formal identification can be made.

Essex Police are aware that there have been extensive media briefings in Vietnam and this has understandably been of significant interest.

The Government, the National Crime Agency, foreign police forces and Essex Police have worked with HM Senior Coroner to make sure that every detail has been verified in order to maintain the dignity of those who have died and to show respect for their families and friends.

Makes it even more heartbreaking reading all of their names on that long list. 10 of them teenagers too. :(

Rest in peace. I hope justice is served to all those involved.

But l'm beginng to lose faith in Essex Police tbh.

  • #517
I'm so happy they were able to identify each of them. Circumstance considered, I feel they had their work cut out for them.

Actually looking back at other reports it seems EH was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant Northern Ireland trucker Eamon Harrison faces extradition from Republic over Essex lorry deaths - BelfastTelegraph.co.uk

It was said elsewhere that he was arrested on the assault charges, and then detained for questioning, and then for his own protection, over the lorry deaths.

I think there is no logic to any of this - and it is all a badly managed PR exercise to cover up what is actually going on in terms of the investigation. If , as was reported somewhere along the way, dissident paramilitaries are behind the smuggling there will presumably be involvement form the intelligence service. But that could also be presumption or scaremongering.
