Holy . I agree illegal immigration.

I've seen some of them breaking out the back of lorries when they stop on the road side. Unbelievable how desperate they must be to get here.

Seamus Leheny, Northern Ireland policy manager for the Freight Transport Association (FTA), said:

There is a direct route to Holyhead from Dublin. If the lorry came from Bulgaria, getting into Britain via Holyhead is an unorthodox route.

People have been saying that security and checks have been increased at places like Dover and Calais, so it might be seen as an easier way to get in by going from Cherbourg or Roscoff, over to Rosslare, then up the road to Dublin.

It’s a long way around and it’ll add an extra day to the journey.

How did the lorry get into the UK?

The vehicle is believed to have entered Holyhead in Wales via Dublin.

Bulgaria's foreign ministry said it could not confirm at this stage whether the truck had started its journey from the country

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tsvetana Krasteva told the Mirror Online:

The Waterglade Industrial Park is next to the London Orbital road - mostly designated the M25, but when it approaches the Dartford Crossings under and over the Thames it becomes the A282, because it does not have motorway status for that section.

'All 39 in vehicle had died'
The Essex Police media conference has begun.

Pippa Mills, Deputy Chief Constable, speaking outside Grays Police Station said "all 39 people inside the vehicle had died".

She said that at this stage the force had not identified where the victims are from.

Man remains in custody
Deputy Chief Constable Mills added that the 25-year-old man from Northern Ireland, who was the lorry driver arrested on suspicion of murder, remained in custody.

'Identification number one priority'
"The identification of the victims remains our number one priority," the Deputy Chief Constable said.

She also requested that if anyone had information about the lorry since it came into the country on 21 October, could they come forward.

The brief press conference has now concluded, during which the Deputy Chief Constable called the event "an absolute tragedy and very sad day for Essex Police and the community".

Pippa Mills added: "We will continue to work alongside many other partner agencies to find out what led to these deaths."

National Crime Agency deploys officers

The National Crime Agency has confirmed it has deployed officers to assist police in their investigation.

A statement added: "We are working with partners including Essex Police and Immigration Enforcement to provide specialist support to urgently identify and take action against any organised crime groups who might have played a role in causing these deaths."
