He said early on July 2 he and Ms McLachlan messaged on Instagram, he asked her for cannabis, she said she had none but asked if he wanted to meet for a cigarette.

They met in a shelter outside the home where she was staying with Mr MacPhail, Alesha and her grandparents, then went to a garage and had sex, before going their separate ways, the court heard.

He said this was where he was heading when he was shown on CCTV leaving his home.

Hi I'm new to posting on this thread.

Followed the case in the beginning but found it absolutely horrific so took a step back but started reading again yesterday.

I don't think I've read anything quite so awful in a long time as what has happened here.

It's the stuff of nightmares for parents everywhere.

I think he has made a huge mistake taking to the stand himself if im honest as even though we are only getting tweets etc.. it's clear he's bluffing and making stuff up as he goes along.

I'm unsure if he had any sort of intimate contact with the girlfriend of Aleshas dad. Even if he did I don't buy his story about the condom and planting DNA anyway it's complete fabrication.

The fact they have DNA from him on her neck, vest,underwear etc...is enough for me!

Throw the book at him, there should be no leniency for him just because he's young.

Totally sick young man that has no place in society.

My heart goes out to Aleshas family, how does anyone get over what has happened?

They never will. I look at my eldest daughter who looks a spit of Alesha but is a year younger and it breaks my heart for the family. I feel sorry for the father how the media have portrayed him. Yes - he sells a bit of weed but does that really make him a bad person? I've known plenty of weed dealers who are decent people.

Since the start of the trial I have been paranoid about somebody breaking into my home. Last year or year before there was a case near to me where a guy broke in through the back door and murdered a mother and son while the father took his dog for a walk.

It can literally happen anywhere to anyone. Best we can do is be vigilant and not left any stone unturned.

I'm far behind at present but reading this DNA evidence is a great relief; a shame it's only trace amounts, as the defence could try to explain that away but still, I find it hard to imagine a plausible way so many parts of her could have his DNA on them (the "TM planted it" excuse seems much less likely when so many parts were involved doubt many people would think to do more than 1-2 splashes...), other than the obvious, and I would hope the jury think likewise. Glad it's so conclusive!

In the transcript the other day it showed that after the “sorry it doesn’t matter” he put 2 crying laughing emojis.

Might seem trivial, but if he was doing as he says - sending a bland message to avoid getting Rab suspicious should he read it - why include the 2 emojis?!

Teenagers tend to comminicate using emojis all the time. Not defending him here, 2 of my kids are teenagers and they use them all the time when messaging. I have loads of texts with them.

I only thought it was only a prosecution witness that has to turn up if cited in Scotland? I could be wrong but I just thought as the defence witness is not cited by the crown but by the defence team?
