Hey guys, long time lurker on this case, first time poster.
Forgive me if this has already been covered (I haven't been reading as thoroughly today), but one of the journalist's Twitter pages (Frazer Knight I believe) isn't showing any tweets. Anyone know why?Is there anyone else still tweeting updates/where would be the best place to look out for the verdict as it comes out?
Thank you for all the information provided here on this case. It's the first case I've ever followed as it's gone through court, and the different theories and sources you've provided are very interesting.
My heart is with Alesha's family at this time. I really hope they get justice for her, whichever way that comes.

Not sure on many but James Matthews (@jamesmatthewsky) | Twitter was tweeting up until the jury went out to deliberate.

All IMO

I’m almost positive that it is against the law in Scotland. If you admit guilt to your defence team they aren’t allowed to let you lie knowingly. That being said I’m sure there have been times when this hasn’t been the case.

If I remember correctly from when I worked in a law firm this is true. I've also once overheard a lawyer "mishear" a person admitting their guilt to tell them not to speak further or they couldn't hrlp!

(Apologies for weird tuping, borrowed a family members tablet and it's taking a lot of getting used yl )

I didn't even know websleuths existed until last week. I had followed the case in the news and social media. The special defence really made me prick up my ears and that is where i joined websleuths. Great forum and I'm glad i found it.

I’ve never used an Internet forum in my whole life and have zero social media! Can not believe I’m now hooked on Websleuths...I think my husband thinks I’m cheating on him!

Completely agree. We are getting snippets of information via twitter. We do not know what reporting restrictions were put in place in respect to testimony. The jury have sat through all the evidence. They are privy to all the information, not just what is allowed to be reported.

This verdict is not ours to make; our place was to review, discuss, consider. We have all, in our own way, done this. The jury are those who have the final say in the guilt or otherwise of the accused. We all have our own opinions on whether or not we think that the prosecution have proven the case. That is all that we can do.

All IMO

Perfectly put. Thank you.

I think im so nervous because

1. I think he’s guilty
2. He says she’s done it
3. One of them definitely did it
4. Only him on trial
5. If he gets off then she won’t be tried
No. 4 doesn't necessarily preclude No. 5. I would imagine in these circumstances, that the police would reopen their investigation and if enough evidence is found, charge the correct person.

you don't need to post to be invested, though I'm sure that's not what you meant.

Here's something that I have always wondered...
Does a person who is genuinely guilty of a crime come clean to their defence team and admit they did it but ask for help getting out of it?
Or do they spin a pack of lies to their own defence who probably know that they are lying but are committed to putting up the best case for them?
the second option.

Of course, you are correct, I followed for a while without posting. And yes it wasn't what I meant lol :)

Edit to add, Sorry I see this has been answered a few times, my bad for being slow

The defence will defend on what their client has told them, So of the client has admitted they are guilty they are still entitled to a defence and a fair trial but the lawyer cannot knowing lie and so can't claim client in innocent nor let them go on the stand and knowingly lie.
In these circumstances it would normally be a defence to getting a fair trial and/or mitigating circumstances etc.

If your client is swearing they are innocent, even if you believe them to be telling a pack of lies you still have to put forward the case as best you can

I would have thought if they had evidence against her she would already had been charged
