For avoidance of doubt

The ONLY person to blame here is the spineless little toad currently sitting playing xbox in polmont.

Im sure that nothing and nobody ever gave him the slightest inclination that behaving like a wild animal was ok.

Its all down to him - and if his mother had said so...im sure the whole board would have been right behind her

I'm sure i've seen this rumour somewhere?

Am i allowed by board rules to answer this with some third party conversation that i read?

If i can..i will....and if not then i probably will not :)

A number of people know what was going on locally, cover-ups etc, let's just wait until it all comes out. No point in bickering.

I think best not for now Wtiger, we don't want you being reported :)

Do we know who will attend the court this morning, I believe the accused and the judge who else?

Cherryplum - Emotions are high and I guess after the interview the Mum gave The Sun (of all the newspapers she could have picked) this has tipped alot of us over the edge - I hope for her sake there is some evidence, that we have not been told about that she indeed did try to have him evaluated. I truly believe it takes a village to raise a child and IMO there are people out there who will be thinking could we have done more ?

After some more reflection - I agree with wtiger 'totally ill advised interview' - the interview she gave to The Sun really tipped me over the edge but as another poster said the press often do a write up and some things may be out of context.

At the end of the day she was the one who disclosed the CCTV (straight away it would seem) so I guess we really must give her credit for that ....

I've been thinking about it overnight, and on balance I do think it would be better if his name was released now.
Whatever decision is made by the legal bods today, I expect they'll explain their reasoning.

I agree that some of the scottish sun journalists are only a few steps above the perpetrator in terms of decency.

Some disgusting sensationalism of a seedy horrible action.

He's not "psycho" or "slenderman"

He is a paedophile and a rapist and a murderer

There is no shortage of accurate terms to describe him with.....why do the journalists always have to stoop so low?
Oh yes, I got very, very angry when I saw the front page today. It infuriated me, even more, seeing the headline "sex murder". No. Just. No.

Newspaper representatives I would expect as they are the ones bringing the appeal

Toni McLachlan has made a heartbreaking visit to the spot where the six-year-old's body was found.

She laid flowers and strung up fairylights at a shrine
The 18-year-old said "I want today to be all about Alesha" as she made the emotional visit two hours after the youngster's teen killer was convicted of murder.

Woman Alesha killer tried to pin murder on lays flowers where body found

more at the link - I have shortened my snippet above, to take out some of the more OTT description that the Scum is famous for

Haven't seen them myself but the article as a whole sounds like typical anti-gaming scaremongering to me, as a gamer it really annoys me when the media bring games into it, playing computer games is a perfectly normal activity these days, but it's the current "this will corrupt our youth!" scapegoat, following horror movies and rock and roll music. Only way I'd see relevance would be if he had a particular interest in games where the player enacts torture/killing in a particularly realistic manner, focussing clearly on one individual victim. The description of this sounds more like the player is meant to be being scared by the atmosphere, not contributing to the scariness.

I play one game with all kinds of demonic and evil symbolism in the background, including torture implements inside some buildings, where I kill thousands upon thousands, severing heads and body parts. That game could easily be spun in much the same way as this article, but my character is actually the good hero protecting the innocent citizens of my land from invasions of demons and cultists, in a rather unrealistic way of blowing away tens of them at a time; anyone who actually played it would never see a problem (for older teens at least, I'll grant the blood and gore is a bit much for younger children), but the papers could twist it any way they liked!

I have to agree. YouTube culture is definitely a thing these days, along with Twitch and YouTube. There's a whole niche out there for horror game streamers, and you only have to look at the likes of PewDiePie (regardless of my own personal opinion on him) who do similar commentary.

The hearing to lift the protected anonymity of the 16 year-old who raped & murdered Alesha MacPhail is beginning in Glasgow’s High Court. I’ll be updating from the courtroom. If granted permission, @itvnews will reveal the name and picture of this teenage killer.

I’ve been following the trial but not commenting.

What/who’s interest does it serve knowing his identity?
He’s locked up
The people of Bute almost certainly know who he is
He is unlikely to have a catalogue of crimes approaching the severity of this one that could extend his sentence.

Aside from the fact that his sister would be identifiable to the wider public and be tainted by association, I don’t think he should be named. This is a cynical ploy by the media to sell newspapers by printing salacious details , it does not increase justice for Alesha

Personally, I think it is better to have it revealed. There will be 15 minutes of articles and then he will fade away into obscurity, which will be a welcome relief to Alesha's family.
If it is not revealed now, then we face months of speculation, hinting, etc and it will keep the story alive and bring even more pain to Alesha's family. And then, when he turns 18, if it is revealed, the whole story will resurface, just as the family are trying to get back to some sort of normality and peace
( not that I think they ever will be able to ).

Re his sister - I very much doubt it will reveal her identity.

The sun newspaper and sensationalism go hand in hand...

I like you struggle to think that so many people would let such heinous behaviour slide but people do not like to get involved...

I have first hand knowledge of this from my youth as everyone knew what went on in my house and not a soul did a thing xx

That is true, sometimes they just look the other way. I'm very sorry for what happened to you. I hope you're doing okay x.
