Is there a 'typical' Campbell reaction?

This article reads like a made up, carefully worded piece, written to sound as though it's come directly from Janettes mouth but, is it?

Though if it were true, of course she'd be scared! Why would she welcome being attacked?

Janette has never expressed that she's not disgusted at what her son has done.

How would you like her to express it?
Agree with this. She phoned the police, she never supported him in court. Apart from come out publicly and say she's appalled, I'm not sure what else she can do.
She's right to be scared of attack, there are people out there who will take their reprisal out on her because they can't get to her son.

I did copy it in here but got deleted. Didn't realise we can't do that.
Didn't realise that either. I'm not good with rules at the best of times. This place can be a minefield.

Strange too that not one of the newspapers have published a photograph of AC's father. He mustn't have any social media accounts. It looks like AC's father has been wanting to bail out for a while.

He did but, deleted his Facebook pretty sheepish!

Sorry I agree with you, she did do the right thing in handing in the cctv. Can't imagine how that must've felt, what an awful thing to go through. The article wording just got me but having read again, I believe it's a load of rubbish. It's all 'a source said' etc!

  • #966
Yeah, a source said means some bloke who once met AC's mother down the pub who we paid to say whatever we wanted him to say. Ignore.

  • #967
Dad 'they always blame the dad for these things'. Aaron 'the police always blame me for things that happen here'. Like father, like son.

It's the same story rehashed with a couple of tweaks, doesn't even need to have been a source at all,it's common knowledge that Chris Campbell did a bunk early on and left his wife to pick up the pieces, and it doesnt take a genius to work out that anyone visiting AC in polmont is going to be a target of abuse at the very least,so its easy to assume his mother would be scared of reprisals. So they can print that, pretend they have a source to cover their backs and away they go!
Nobody knows why JC hasn't visited her son,she may be scared, she may be disgusted, she may be a lot of things, but she may just need space and time to try and process everything that has happened. This woman has lost her entire life, her son is a brutal rapist and murderer and very possibly a dangerous psychopath, but he is her son and she can't change that, her marriage in is tatters, she is alone. Her home will never feel the same again, her friends may never look at her the same way,and she will always be wondering who is blaming her, second guessing if people she has known for years, has shared memories with, are looking at her or talking about her.All this to cope with whilst trying to get some kind of normality back for her daughter.
I wish the press would remember that they are human and leave this poor woman be!

I personally think that is a bit harsh. It's not good what Chris has done to his daughter and Janette but 'like father, like son' is unfair. It's not like we have anything against Chris apart from him upping and leaving, which isn't nearly the same as what his son did.

Sorry if it seemed I was implying what they both did was comparable. I just meant the moaning about getting blamed for things, nothing deeper than that.

Did anyone watch The Victim last night on BBC 1? I did and it gave me chills in light of this case. Just wondered if anyone else watched and felt the same with any similarities.

No, I hadn't heard of it but just looked it up and it seems really interesting so will definitely look for it on iPlayer.

Yeah it was so good! It did remind me of this case too. Even the court set up really made me think of where AC would of been sat and genie etc. Did you watch it @TaylorCallum ?? Was the court layout like it ?

It just makes you think that if AC gets released one day and genie or any of the Macphail family instigate an attack on Aaron they could possibly go to prison for it and AC would be treated as a victim. It sounds so unfair doesn’t it but it’s the law I know.

No, I haven't seen it. I just looked it up though. It sounds interesting! I'll need to give it a watch.

Yeah it’s set in Glasgow too , so good

I can’t find a case to compare it to AC. Does anyone know of any? No previous, under 18 committing rape and murder of a child. I can’t think of any , Angus Sinclair the first time maybe?

There's quite a few but in the US with our harsher legal system:

We've got Jessica Ridgeway's murderer. He did attempt to kidnap a woman right before he kidnapped, actually assaulted and dismembered 10 year old Jessica but no prior criminal behavior otherwise. He was thought of as sweet and very smart by friends and neighbors. He was sentenced to life in prison.

Then there was little 6 year old Jenise Wright. Her 17 year old rapist and murderer was an athlete and well liked. He had zero criminal record. He was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years.

Six year old Alanna Gallagher's rapist and murderer had an extensive history of petty crimes and bullying. Antisocial behavior. He got life in prison.

I don't know about Scottish or British cases in general.

I gasped when I heard the accents and the judge walked in to the court in the same gown as Lord Matthews. The timing of this being shown with how raw Alesha's case still is really surprised me. I presume it's loosely based on the James Bulger case but the similarities with Alesha's made me shudder.
