Yeah, it was really sad, he still looks devastated. He had a meeting with Humza Yousaf (The Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Justice) last month but there's been no information on how it went.

It’s a case review that was done in June by the Argyll & Bute Child Protection Committee detailing all of the information they have on his prior police and social work record before he committed the crime.

Hey everyone. It’s been a while. Great news that the thread has re-opened.

Disappointing but not surprising that he was being monitored. I don’t know if anyone could of really stopped this monster though. I do feel that his sentence reduction shouldn’t have even been considered let alone granted. Devastating for Alesha’s family.

Great to have the thread reopened.

I agree with @Edinlass. Even though he was being monitored I don’t think anyone could have foreseen how evil he actually was. Until him I couldn’t have fathomed a 16 year old could do the things he did.
He was always going to become a monster.

I wonder if more background information will ever come to light, aside from the rumours on the island there is clearly more to his past.

Hello all!

Sad to read about his school friends and their shock and disbelief. Well done to the school for providing a lot of help for them.

"Initially, some pupils could not believe that X had committed the offence and could not accept this up until the point where he was found guilty and sentenced.
"The head teacher sensitively and effectively managed an exceptional set of circumstances and worked with colleagues from educational psychology and Rape Crisis to provide support and counselling to pupils and staff."

Alesha MacPhail's killer Aaron Campbell 'could not have been stopped'

Thank goodness this thread is open again! I missed posting on here. And am still thinking about the case even though everything seems to be settled now and the appeal over. I agree there is bound to be a documentary at some point. I mean it was the first time cameras were allowed in the court room, so obviously this is going to be remembered for a long time.

Oh and this is 'bronzepurple', I couldn't remember my old log in so had to create a new account! :)

I didn't see it. What was the content/what did he say? On a side note, and I hope I am not breaking rules by mentioning this, but I unexpectedly came across CJ on Tinder...! I moved off the island to Edinburgh and joined Tinder and his profile showed up in my feed. His profile picture was a picture of him holding Alesha :( It was one of the pictures that I'd seen in the press too so I'm sure a lot of other people would recognise who they both were as soon as they saw his profile.

That’s so sad :-(
Poor cj. Did u swipe right for him? ... ;)
I still think about the case too. It will deffo be one of those cases that stays with me forever.
I think there could be a doc about the case this year possibly, and I’m sure someone’s in the process of writing a book already aswell.

Did anyone ever find out why genie stopped working with fams? It seemed odd to me that she cut contact with them after all she did to tell everyone how much they helped her. Can’t help but wonder what happened..

Hello!

He was speaking about the social work report that was released last month. It's on YouTube, it's pretty short:

Oh, yeah I'm sure a lot of people will probably recognise him then. I'm sure it's still really hard for him. Hope you're enjoying Edinburgh, bet it's a bit busier than Bute! Lol.

Hehe no I didn't swipe right, I feel like I know too much about the while case and it'd be odd to swipe right and/or meet up with him if it led to that. Also I didn't feel a connection romantically speaking. Hope he finds someone lovely though. And me too haha.

You think as soon as this year? Hm that would be interesting. There's certainly a lot of video footage of Rothesay after the press swarmed over there.

Oh I didn't know she'd stopped working with them. That is surprising! I assume she's still running the charity she set up in Alesha's name?

Hi :) Ah thanks for the link, I'll have a look at it now.

Yes much busier haha, and more opportunities here. I do miss Bute though, but I love Edinburgh too. If I was on Rothesay Tinder I'd likely recognise everyone in the street at some point after swiping. Awkward!:p

Y'know I was thinking recently - remember when the press came out with these stories that a band of 'creepy fangirls' had been writing to Aaron telling him they'd be showing up at his appeal to see him? For that to be leaked to the press I suspect it's because the letters never reached Aaron himself. The Governor of Polmont must have opened them and decided not to pass them on to him as she deemed them inappropriate or unsuitable for him. I mean they also have a duty of care at Young Offenders Institute to make sure that they protect the people serving time there, as it's not like adult prison where everyone has public access to prisoners numbers and can write to them. At young offenders its only family and friends who the person serving time chooses to pass his number to. So I suspect any letters sent to the Governer (like Taylors letter) likely won't be passed on to Aaron. They will also want to protect him from an onslaught of hate mail too, amongst other things.

No bother! There's this one too but I'm not sure if they overlap:

Yeah, I suppose it's not too far away to pop on the ferry if you ever feel like it at least. Haha, I can imagine!

Yes, that makes sense. You're probably right, especially being under 18 as well. You can imagine the type of angry things that were sent to him given what he did.

As someone who is from Bute I can tell you that I don't think anyone will ever work out the truth about what he had or hadn't done before this.

There are so many awful rumours now of his behaviour before this crime and how it was covered up by people, no one knows what to believe.
If even some of the rumours are true then someone should have intervened with this boy long ago.

Although a lot of people close to him have said they never suspected that he could hurt anyone so who knows what rumours are true at this point.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Yeah, there are a lot of rumours have been going around from an outsiders perspective, I'm sure there are even more on the island, it's hard to know what's real and what isn't. It's such an awful case regardless.

It's definitely something that will leave a lasting impression on Bute, it must be hard for the community (yourself included) but I'm sure everyone has been coming together.

That's the problem with 'Rothesay Rumours' - some of them can be true, some have a smidgen of truth to them and then evolve into something else through chinese whispers, and some are just completely fabricated made up to slander other people or from boredom. Not speaking specifically about Aaron's case here, just in general. Personally I do suspect probably a lot of the stories about him were true, because the majority of them do mirror all the classic sociopathic traits, and the reported 'incidents' (fires, hurting animals etc) are usually part of the background of sociopaths in prison. However like you said there's no way to know for sure which stories are accurate.
