She claims she watched it for signs of Alesha. Surely you'd start from the present time and rewind backwards for possible sightings. It's entirely possible it just seems bizarre she doesn't see the footage just minutes later of her son leaving with a torch despite the claims she viewed the CCTV to try and find any sightings of Alesha.

I'm a bit late to this case and have only just fully caught up including the defence. Can't believe how laughable it is, especially the condom bit, like something out of a movie! I'm amazed he hasn't just plead guilty unless the defence have something up their sleeve.

Exactly this

Yes, you have a really good point.

Witness' CCTV captured 'figure carrying something on back'

Witness Alexander McLachlan tells the court his home security system saw a figure walking past his house which appeared to look like they were carrying something on their back during the night Alesha MacPhail was killed.

Mr McLachlan said he checked it for any sign of the missing girl.

The footage from 2.26am that morning is played to the court.

Alesha MacPhail's body had 117 injuries - but her bare feet were unmarked

I seem to remember mention of CCTV that showed the accused walking past carrying a 'body'. Was this possibly it?

It's called first light but there's so little light at that point that it's still essentially pitch black dark, there wouldn't be anywhere near enough light coming through the window for you to see properly.

My personal speculation is that he turned the light on at the end of his shower to check for traces of blood in the shower (presumably it was blood being showered off).

At that time of year (close to midsummer) in the north of Scotland it actually hardly gets dark at all.

Prosecution ends by asking what Mr Mclachlan saw the figure carrying. “At that time I knew there was a child missing so I presume it might be somebody carrying a child” he says.

The accused’s mother said she awoken at 7.20am to shouting in the street.

She said it was people looking for Alesha MacPhail.

After checking the back garden she woke up her son and asked if he knew anything about Alesha’s disappearance.

Alesha MacPhail's body had 117 injuries - but her bare feet were unmarked

Court hears Alesha’s dad’s girlfriend tried to call the 16 yr-old back at 6.29am but no answer.

The 16 yr-old accused then messaged her at 9.01am saying, “doesn’t matter ”

Court has heard before that the 16 yr-old accused had also tried to contact Alesha’s dad that night.

If these timings are correct. When TMc messaged him back post the 9.01am message from him saying ‘doesn’t matter’, to say ‘look out for Rab’s daughter’ - his mum had allegedly already woken him up after 7.20am to ask.

Yet, it seems he acted to TMc like he didn’t already know.

Another witness who lives two doors down from Mr Mclachlan also shows CCTV footage to the court illustrating a figure walking past her house, apparently carrying another person. “You can see the legs hanging down and moving” she says.

You learn something new every day as the saying goes! I knew that was the case in some places but I didn't think Bute would be far enough North for that to be the case there.

Just an observation, but there sure is a lot of homes with CCTV in Rothesay.

I've never lived further north than the Central Belt and it was certainly the case there and Bute would be a bit further north still. It's like twilight most of the night. You'd get a good month of that either side of 21st June.

Doesn't it seem most likely that he took Alesha to the beach straight from her bed? Did the deed there and subsequently moved the body to the location where she was found. If he was seen carrying a body or unconscious child on his back at 2:26 away from the beach heading north to where the body would be later found. He went back and forth so quickly looking to clean up the area where he molested and killed her on the beach. So the short distance alive to the beach, the longer distance dead or unconscious. Where is the police station skip where he disposed of clothing?

Thank you! I think I set it up right. If someone doesn't mind checking for me and messaging to show it works I'd really appreciate it!

I was about to say the same. For somewhere described earlier as a "leave your doors open" type place there seems to be an awful lot of home CCTV.

BBM - Pathologist evidence stated the injuries were caused where she was found, not at the beach.
