Waiting patiently for the results of the post mortem which the police should have by now. The back garden being searched may have been en route to where poor wee Alesha was found
The police might be having a "wee chat" with someone right now about their findings today. If the cause of death is horrible (likely imo) it could be better all round to have an arrest before releasing any further details to the public.

Awaiting a briefing by Police Scotland on the unexplained death of 6 year old Alesha McPhail on Bute. It’s been delayed to await details from the post mortem.

Now does that mean updating media later tonight or was that the update?

I'm guessing it's just delayed. I don't think they'd have set up the hall for that statement.

  • #131
I think we should get something tonight as the hall looks to have been made ready for press conference

I think this might be a rather "sensitive" case and the presser needs to be handled and worded very cautiously.

  • #133
I would think they'd need to update family/parents too before making a public announcement on cause of death and that might cause difficulties if they want to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Back garden of a house with three flats in it is being searched.

Alesha MacPhail: Forensics search garden of house near where girl was found

Wonder who lives there?
Police Scotland forensic officers are searching the back garden of a house near where Alesha MacPhail was found dead.
This is very strange because the place where her body was located was about a mile from the house she "disappeared" from. The footage attached to the link shows a policeman outside the neighbour's house to the east. Perhaps this is just case footage and another location closer to the Old Hotel is being searched?

I’m so sad for wee Alesha, you don’t expect things to happen to kids in places like this :( I hope whatever has happened comes to light fairly quickly

Probably just badly worded - it is the house next door

Yes, forensic team in white are definitely in the neighbour's house...and the same red car as the Oct 2015 Google maps view is in the driveway.

The distance between the house that was taped in news coverage and the forested area near the old hotel is less than a mile...15 minutes walk in a clip - see map below. Even if Alesha was lost and without shoes she could have covered this ground easily...Most 6-year-olds can wander for hours. But I really don't think this is what's happened here...and what caused her death? It would have got a bit chilly at night - maybe 12-14 celcius - but not really life-threatening? She was found in the woods and not at the bottom of an old wall in the ruins. I think somebody is either covering up an accidental death or most likely, something more nefarious has happened.

Exactly. If Alesha had wandered to a pond that would be one thing, but to wander off and die in the woods in just a few hours in okay temperatures? That makes me very scared that someone hurt her :-(
