Accused’s mother told court she waited for her friend to come home from work. Friend said you’d better call police and then the mother did. Said they were trying to explain to accused son whoever did this would have left DNA. Said son didn’t understand what DNA was

Is "at his backside" a slang phrase?
Yeah!! We used to get in trouble for not tidying up and leaving our stuff at our backside for mum to clean up lol

Interesting. Presumably he had educated himself by the time the police came to his house, when he said, if you dont believe me, you can have my DNA

Would the 7 mins be enough to travel to the location and back home?

I'm trying to geolocate the house featured in the youtube videos.

Slightly different wording here, but same message BBM

The accused's mother, who reported her son to police for “suspicious behaviour” at the time of the murder, told the police purely because she thought her son could have been a helpful witness.

She said: “Obviously I didn’t think he had anything to do with this whatsoever.

“It was to eliminate him from their enquiries.”

It didn't say he returned without trousers ..so how did they get to the crime scene? Unless he took a spare pair

Court is shown CCTV footage

The court is then shown footage of a person arriving back at the house at 3.35am.

The mother of the accused says she assumes it’s her son.

He jumps over wall and enters rear of house.

He is no longer wearing a hoody.

CCTV shows the bathroom light coming on.

Footage shows the accused leaving the property again wearing just shorts.

Alesha MacPhail's body had 117 injuries - but her bare feet were unmarked

Is "at his backside" a slang phrase?

Yeah, my mum used to say this to me all the time. ‘Sick of you leaving everything at your backside’. Basically not tidying up after oneself

Trousers were not left at the crime scene - they were found on the beach

Ah, of course!

It seems like a very short time to change so many lives in such a huge way.
Nothing I've read there confirms if he returns with anything in his hand when he left the 2nd time ie the tshirt, or clearly not having his phone - discrediting his story about looking for his phone as he had his phone to send messages to TM a few hours later.
Perhaps the tshirt was used to hide the knife from cctv.
Does seem odd that he returned and put the bathroom light on and left again so quickly.

Not commented much (if at all) on this case, but I've been following along faithfully here. Thank you all for the running updates, much appreciated.

"Didn't understand DNA. "

Bingo.

Long enough to dispose his clothes in the skip at the police station .

Where was the hoody found?

And I would have thought the pathologist would discuss DNA if Alesha was raped, or would that be a different specialist?

Does the fact she was raped not then rule out TM being responsible?
