It looks like there is going to be a sad end to this. No official confirmation from Cumbria Police yet, though.

Yes, unfortunately it looks like that. He was a teacher, too…

TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘much loved’ teacher who was found dead after a police search.

Andrew Swindley, a drama teacher of 25 years, was discovered by police in Haverthwaite after he was reported missing.

He was 54.

A loving father, husband and popular member of the community, Mr Swindley used his career in education to inspire young people to find their confidence through drama.

Andrew’s wife Sarah Swindley spoke of her husband’s larger than life personality and the happiness he brought those around him.

She said: “He was a very loving father and husband, and a much-loved teacher.

“He was a larger-than-life character with the biggest heart and so much love for his family.

“He was an amazing father to Edward and George.

“Andrew was a teacher for 25 years and he had always been a drama teacher after studying it in University. He loved drama. He was a dramatic person.

“Outside of teaching he would always be outside, walking and bird watching. But in his career he would also use drama to inspire young people to find that confidence or that special something inside themselves.

“He struggled for many years with bipolar disorder which he battled all through his life.

“It has been nice to see how many people loved him and it is a shame he didn’t feel it about himself. He would have loved to have seen this.

“We really want to thank everyone who has been so lovely. And a big thank you to the police and the safer lakes team, and the national park authority who gave such incredible support.”

Andrew's former pupil George Burrows spoke of his time knowing him at school.

He said: "I left St Aidans in 2013 and Andrew was my drama teacher.

"I am in my final year of drama school now. Mr Swindley was a true inspiration to me and to so many students. We adored him. I wouldn’t be where I am now without him."

His family are asking for anyone to donate toward Bipolar UK who do important work for those living with mental health issues.
