UK - Anita Rose, 57, walking her dog, police investigating suspected murder, Brantham, Suffolk, 24th July 2024'

Snipped from Dotta's post, 372

The barrister said that Barclay was captured on CCTV footage in Upper Orwell Street in Ipswich on July 27 with a "carrier bag in his left hand" which prosecutors say contained Ms Rose's phone.

He said that Barclay entered a seating area with the bag and is later seen to emerge from the seating area without the bag.

He said a couple - Mr Ichim and Ms Baiculescu - were captured on CCTV minutes later entering then emerging from the seating area and "there's an exchange of an item" between them, which Mr Paxton said was Ms Rose's phone.

"Within a minute or so when that phone is switched on, that's Anita's phone, it alerts the police," Mr Paxton said.

He said that "numerous police officers flooded the area and found the unsuspecting Mr Ichim and Ms Baiculescu" in a mobile phone and vape shop.

The barrister said "they had paid for a factory reset of the phone" but police arrived before this was done.

He said Mr Ichim was arrested and later released.

How fortunate that the police were able to act quickly and save the phone and how sad that the first instincts of the finders was not to search for the owner, but to use the phone for their own gain.

So...

The photos with a carrier bag we were pouring over here,
was the defendant marching
(or was it "shuffling"?)
to Ipswich to get rid of the phone.

Quote:

"Mr Paxton, continuing to open the prosecution case on Friday,
said Barclay had looked at news articles about the incident
in the days after the attack.

Roy Barclay dumps Anita's iPhone
after Mr Brown has told the public in an article Mr Barclay has viewed
about the significance of that phone.

How did he "look at news"? 🤔

By phone with internet access?
Did he have a burner phone?
Because he couldn't have legit phone being on the run, right?
(In my country burner phones are forbidden)
Or did he look at headlines in the press at newsagent's?

He could have a burner phone. You can get them here.

I see.
Well, criminals take advantage.
Burner phones are banned where I live.
To have access to SIM card, one has to present personal data (valid ID card or passport).

But sure,
criminals try to find ways around the ban I guess.

I wonder if Barclay left the bag and phone in an area known for vagrants drug users or street people for that very reason.

Why did he just leave the phone as apposed to dumping it switched off in the bottom of a bin or have I missed something ?

God this is only a couple of days in and it’s horrific reading - I just can’t even think of the terror for Anita and as someone who walks my dog daily I’m constantly looking over my shoulder these days.

Anita’s murder makes me unspeakably angry.
I know all murders are horrific and I do not diminish any one of them but a lone woman walking her dog minding her own business losing her life in this abysmal manner should be a wake up call to every single professional body who’s job it was to ensure offenders are tracked and monitored 24/7 and if they are incarcerated then that’s exactly where they stay.
This was totally avoidable.
No doubt the “ lessons will be learned “ platitude will be rolled out at some point but it’s hollow and meaningless.
Poor Anita.
Just my opinion obviously.

Evidence of SA on her pink jacket, I'd say that was the motive, old as the stars.

Awful awful awful crime.

That, or the accused engaged in autoerotic evil fantasies after-the-fact, using Anita’s jacket as an aid—which the prosecutors have said were kept as a trophy…

Ugh…sorry 😔😡

"Partner of dog walker tells trial of final call.

1748945536795.webp

Her partner Richard Jones told a court
that Ms Rose felt 'very safe' in the village
and her last message to him was

'OK babe, drive safe, I love you'.

The court was told that on 24 July, Mr Jones had called Ms Rose at 05:24 as he was away working in East Yorkshire and that the call had lasted three minutes.

The jury heard that at 06:15,
Mr Jones video-called his partner but this time the screen was black
and there was no sound,
even though the call was answered.

He said this was 'very odd'
so he tried to call Ms Rose a number of times afterwards.

At 06:25, she was found with serious head injuries by a cyclist near the Brantham sewage works."

Beautiful last words of Anita :(

"Dog walker found unresponsive,

murder trial told.

Rachel Island, who was also walking her dog,
said she thought Ms Rose had been attacked
as she was found only wearing a bra on her top half.

Giving evidence,
Ms Island said she was the second person to arrive at the scene.

She said Ms Rose had 'laboured breathing'
and patches of blood on her face.

Jerome Tassel, also giving evidence,
told jurors
he was on his regular cycle from his home in Hadleigh to Manningtree railway station
when he found Ms Rose alone
'flat on her back' across a gravel path with blood on the left side of her face.

He said
her dog Bruce was lying 'patiently' next to her
and the lead was wrapped twice around her leg."

Many more details from yesterday:

"Mr Jones said he and Ms Rose shared an English springer dog called Bruce, but she would tell him it was his dog when she walked it.

Prosecutor Christopher Paxton said that in a call at 5.24am on July 24, Ms Rose told Mr Jones:
'I'm walking your bloody dog already'.

The court heard Mr Jones made a WhatsApp video call to Ms Rose at 6.15am as he was off-loading his lorry at a Tesco site.

Mr Jones said: 'It got answered but there was a black screen'.

He said there was 'no sound', and asked by Mr Paxton if he could hear anything he said: 'No, nothing'.

Mr Paxton said: 'We know the video call was open for a minute - did you say anything?'

Mr Jones replied: 'All I said was 'Anita, Anita'."

This part:

Mr Jones said: “It got answered but there was a black screen.”

He said there was “no sound”, and asked by Mr Paxton if he could hear anything he said: “No, nothing.”

Mr. Jones called Anita’s phone via WhatsApp video at 6:15 AM, and the above is how he described what happened. The call was for 1 minute.

Did the assault already happen, and the accused was in possession of her phone at that time? If so, did he press something to “answer” the phone? Or, what? Was the screen black because the wallet-style phone case cover was kept closed?

Anyone familiar with WhatsApp video calls know how this black screen, yet answered—might occur?

So, looking at the FAQ WhatsApp page, it says to:

IMG_0969.webp

So, someone must have pressed “Accept call”, because the partner who called said his call to Anita was “answered”.

If Anita did, was it just at the moment she was attacked? 😮 But then, why was there no sound, and no visual on the screen.

If the perpetrator did, why would he? And, as the call was for 1 minute, again, why keep the call going for a minute?
