Oh no. Not what I wanted to hear. :( I hope LE can bring April home to her family so they can say goodbye at least.

How heartbreaking.

Yes...and it is believed he also had a collection of weapons...knives, swords etc., but NO proof yet available that this little dab is dead.

I believe that the police have proof in spades that she is dead. They won't share any of it with us, the public, or the media. (Neither will they share it with the family, by the way)

I think the searching is continuing just in case there is something to find that will help the police, not neccessarily a body.

Whilst I realise that the police need to keep evidence safe....I think they owe it to the family, searchers...and the rest of us to, at least, state...categorically...that there is no way she is still alive. Until they do this...I..and many others..will refuse to accept that she has to be dead.

The police have said they're looking for a body. I don't know what else you want them to say? They've charged someone with murder....

Hi, say I read something and need to put a link to it, say sky news, an article in the papers, etc., in order to show where i found it. Thanks.

Ok, just go to that article and copy the URL and just bring it back here and paste it to your post.

If he pleads not guilty, which I bet he will,

I may have this wrong, but I didnt think he would plead anything at this time.....

the charge goes forward, he gets his solicitor/barrister appointed ( which I dont believe is as random as some think, but thats the cynic in me ) and then, at the hearing in a few months time, this is the point at which he enters a plea, after his barrister and legal team have had time to review the evidence and discuss options with him

Hi, if you want to post a link....left click your mouse and hold it down...scan across the headline or article you wish to include and when it is all highlighted in dark blue..release the left button...pass the cursor over the highlighted area..right click the mouse and click on 'copy' in the dropdown menu. When you are writing your response and want to include the link left click once and you will see the cursor blinking...then right click your mouse button and left click 'paste'. Your link should then be included. Hope this helps you.[/I]

You're quite right, of-course.

I just thought that posters outside the UK might wonder what happens in general. I didn't mean that he would plead not guilty now.

Can we fix the broken quotes guys before it all get's in a terrible mess again

I'm kind of shocked that they didn't say anything else in this press conference really. I want to know if he's being co-operative, if he's given the police any direction in where to search and why they think it's him (in general).

Frustrating

I am thinking the extra charge means no, he is not helping in any way.

Yes, and also something along the lines of we have evidence which proves the child was killed, so that people can stop hoping she will turn up alive.....unless they haven't got this.

I wonder if they set cadaver and blood dogs into the house and car. Wouldnt it have been reported, just like the water cadaver dogs were.

I'm wondering if they charged him with the lesser charges in order to possibly use them to possibly get him to say where April is? Maybe they will drop the lesser charges if he tells them? Something like that?

I wonder about that, too. I don't know how it works in the UK, but it's fairly common here for lesser charges to be dismissed in exchange for information, especially in a case like this where a young girl is missing. JMO

I understand the shock and grief, but police do not charge with murder this early on in a missing persons case if they believe the victim could be alive. A murder without a body case generally takes months or years for charges to come, without proof that the person is deceased.

They aren't allowed to say any of that in the UK. It would prejudice a possible trial.

They obviously think it's him or he wouldn't have been charged.

It is frustrating but it's our legal system. LE will tell the public nothing to do with the case and the media will be severely constrained in what they can report so that nothing is published which might predjudice a fair trial.

We don't do jury selection in the UK as is done in the US. UK jurors don't fill in questionaires where they are asked whether e.g they have read about the case. So there will be little reported going forward until the trial.

I don't really get how they can have enough evidence to get a murder conviction when she's only been missing for a week and no body? :(

So, so hope, for Aprils' sake....that you are wrong.

Yes, that is my belief as well, that he has said nothing

It cannot be that he has said nothing. He is perfectly within his rights to give no comment interviews. That would not warrant a charge of perverting the course of justice. It has to be something else.
