GUILTY UK - Arrest in 1987 'Bedsit Murders' of Wendy Knell, 25, and Caroline Pierce, 20, in Kent

  • #261
Thanks for sharing Dotta. I got a bit sidetracked ;). This is fascinating as there may be potentially other victims out there. Fuller is an absolute monster and quite capable.
Murder of Linda Cook - Wikipedia.

I feel it is important to consider DF's M.O. in the murders of Wendy and Caroline:

1. Beating around the head with a blunt object
2. Strangulation (possibly manual as no mention of ligatures or clothing being used)
3. Semen samples obtained from clothing and not from intimate samples, which were a forensic technique in 1987.
4. Sexual abuse during death and invariably post mortem (details have been withheld due to sensitivity)

These are DF's calling card in terms of the method of killing and the post mortem sexual activity. These will be replicated in his offending as they are driven by his powerful psychological needs and the projection of his negative emotions.

Therefore, it is necessary to give great weight to the circumstances surrounding other outstanding murdcr's. Where the M.O.'s have significant similarity, then DF could be viewed as a potential suspect, needing further examination.

The circumstances surrounding the death of Linda Cook in Portsmouth have significant differences, notably the absence of beating around the head and post mortem sexual assault (as reported).

I believe there may be unknown third party DNA recovered from the intimate samples. However, this will not necessarily originate from her killer. It could be an innocent third party. JMO

I know of the urge to run headlong into theories and follow personal hunches. It's what we do when we are youthful and full of energy - like a new puppy :) For those long in tooth and short of hair then conserving energy is just what Greta Thunberg would advocate, for those vital moments when we need to chase the baddies for real :D

There is also the unsolved case of Jessie Earl in Eastbourne and missing person Louise Kay.
Tobin has often been blamed for many local murders but should we be looking elsewhere now.

This is quite a good article about Forensics and how the police forensic teams match samples. They then start looking at other links which could match a potential murderer to a crime scene.

Pennells said he dropped "Jane Doe" off a Spitalfields market, East London, which is near to the City of London boundary.

He was found "not guilty". Personally, I think that is fanciful. The evidence was compelling enough. Also Pennells lived in Ticehurst and the Henley's transport depot in Goudhurst were both significantly close to Bedgebury Forest.

The unsolved murder of beaten dead woman who still has no identity 40 years on

BBC Crimewatch report from 1984 on Jane Doe in Bedgebury Forest (from 23m 10s).

BBC Crimewatch report from 1999 on Jane Doe in Bedgebury Forest (from 22m 06s).

I very much agree with you Whitehall. The Jane Doe victim in 1979 was undoubtedly the same lady seen travelling in Pennells lorry. That Pennells travelled to Lancashire and back with her in his lorry but could only vaguely remember her first name seems somewhat ludicrous. That he says he dropped her off at Eltham (in South East London) and she is found dead in Bedgebury Forest off the beaten track on the Kent/East Sussex border minutes from Pennells Ticehurst home makes you wonder what the jury were thinking. Pennells moved to Somerset after the trial before passing away.

Thanks for the interesting article you have posted Lord Flimsy.
Do any of the cars described match up with Fuller's.
A white 5-7 CWT van with blue writing on the sides.
A yellow sports car with foreign number plates
A Red Ford Cortina 2000 registration with tow bar.

NHS has blue writing. Is anyone able to find images of vans which staff may have used at the now-closed Kent and Sussex Hospital where Fuller was working at the time of Jean Brook's murder.

The Red Ford Cortina as a possibility in the Brook murder case reminds me of Brighton Babes in the woods murder car which belonged to Russel Bishop. Is there anywhere stating that Fuller ever had a red Ford.

An article prior to Fuller's arrest. Almost like a prophetic statement with what we know now.

Who was the Tunbridge Wells Bedsit Killer?
Quote: "It would be easy to label this man as being seriously psychologically disturbed, and he does have a serious sexual disturbance to have committed such horrific crimes as he has".

Quote: "This man is believed to be one of the most dangerous and possibly prolific killers that Britain has ever seen, and destroys whole families through his actions".

I stand corrected. Pennells said he picked up Jane Doe from Spitalfields Market but dropped her off as you say in South East London, various reports are from Eltham to the Swanley Interchange area.

That she was found in Bedgebury Forest is just too coincidental along with the other evidence.

My theory is Pennells concealed the body en route back to the depot and in the vicinity of Bedgebury Forest and then returned later and moved Jane Doe in a smaller vehicle to the final depostion site. A Henley's lorry would be too large and easily remembered on Park Lane in the forest.

The deposition site was in the area of OS grid ref TQ 74065 33406 not far from Louisa Lodge.

The Henley's Transport Depot, where Pennells worked, was based just outside Goudhurst at Spelmonden. The Spelmonden Estate is still in the family today and the historical information on the website confirms that hops were transported to Covent Garden or Spitalfields.

about us – Spelmonden Estate

I think additional evidence from fibres from the victim and soil samples from any vehicles he had access to may have provided the additional evidence and placement in Bedgebury. Soil samples were recovered prospectively from the deposition sites in the Worlds End Murders in Edinburgh in 1977 and later used to prove the case against one of the two offenders who was still living.

Apparently Pennells could not be placed in the vicinity of the forest on or around the estimated time of death.

I feel this is one who got away! JMOO

I once read that in Japan the staff of morgues are mostly women - the public demanded it.
Aha, in some countries the dead people in morgues are tied/handcuffed to the gurneys so it is impossible to carry them or tamper with the bodies.
All these precautions indicate that there is a problem with deviants all over the world.

Doesn't bear thinking about. That poor lady who is mum to the girl who fell to her death. Her body had such terrible injuries. What pleasure could anyone garner from that is beyond me.

o_O  l had no idea - is this accurate? I heard some Japanese men are into off beat things sexually, is this why?!?

Wayback machine is always useful if anyone is unfamiliar with this site. You can find captures of early websites as far back as 1998. Maybe some eager eyed sleuth can find some photos of Fuller but I am off to bed shortly ;)

Bedgebury Forest had its own cycling club from 2006 so Fuller may well have become involved at a later date but not during the year we want to look at to see if there are any connections with Fuller and the 1982 Jean Brook murder.
Bedgebury Forest Cycle Club

Fuller was a member of West Kent Cycling Touring Club and the Tunbridge Wells group

Cycling West Kent on FB is an interesting group to join but no photos found of Fuller as yet.

I read about it in the Internet.
But is it true? Who knows?

I usually like to refrain from instantly linking other unsolved murders to newly found killers but this monster, jesus.
A ‘man’ like this surely doesn’t murder two women in a single year and that is it. Considering his burglary offences go back 15 years or so before 1987 and his unspeakable offences after ‘87 go all the way up to last year.
Workload for these investigators through the roof probably.

I would not be surprised if sexual interference of the dead in mortuaries and funeral homes is more prevalent than we would like to think.

In the UK, people generally don't want to discuss all aspects of death and this prevents the issues being discussed and appropriate security policies being implemented.

My experience of attending mortuaries to examine bodies for ante mortem injury or other foul play was that the deceased was pulled from fridge and I was left by the mortuary technician to carry on, with no corroboration of my actions or findings.

I think the whole question of security, unquestionable access and lone working needs to be looked at nationally, to reduce the opportunity for such appalling acts in the future.
