'A complete pack of lies'
Ms Prior states Hughes had been letting Arthur visit his maternal grandmother Madelaine Halcrow, who was letting Arthur talk on the phone with his mother Olivia.

Hughes: "I was aware of it on one occasion. I wasn't happy I was trying to find the best way for Arthur to have that contact with his mom. It was done behind my back. After I thought about it the next question was how did Arthur take it, was he okay?"

He states he was the one who told Arthur his mother was in prison.

Ms Prior moves on to a different topic. She asks Hughes why he searched for 'Gretna Green' on his phone on December 15 if he did not want to get married.

He says he does not recall searching for that. Hughes confirms he purchased an engagement ring and says: "I did, it was a forced decision. I was told if I wasn't prepared for marriage she would find someone who wanted the life she did. She was 'getting on' if you like, she didn't want to waste time."

Ms Prior asks if Tustin 'forced' him to get engaged after the incident when he had 'frightened' her to the point of shaking.

Hughes: "Yeah."

Ms Prior: "That's a complete pack of lies isn't it?"

Hughes: "No

That’s all for today…

Hughes accused of screaming in Arthur's face

Ms Prior asks Hughes how he ended up toe-to-toe with his father on New Year's Eve if he did not like confrontation.

Hughes: "I felt my dad was involved. I didn't expect, my dad was on the driveway, I slammed the door, I didn't expect dad to follow me in. I didn't expect that confrontation to happen. Thought it would just be left at words."

Ms Prior puts it to him he 'screamed in Arthur's face that day'.

Hughes: "There were stern words. I shouted. It was towards him."

He indicates he was not directly in his face.

The trial is adjourned until tomorrow

Weasel.

This case has got to me more than any other in recent times. The sheer disregard for a vulnerable little boy. The daily torture, there is no other words for what they did.

I hope his sweet little face haunts them every hour of their lives.

It’s absolutely horrendous, I have such a hard time reading it all and have to step back at times.

Also, just a quick thanks for the updates today

We can only imagine what the people (and there were some) who loved that poor little boy are thinking, hearing all this. And all because that weak man wanted someone in his bed.

Ms Prior is good!
I know she is defending ET but
"the enemy of my enemy is my friend" haha
It is satisfying to see these 2 creatures at each other's throats.
What an end to the "love story"!

Oh, and the Prosecution is eagerly waiting to nail him!

Yeah its all so sad, have never been so affected by something like this so badly. Was nearly glad the trial wasnt on yesterday, to get some head space from it. Hoping the prosecution goes to town on him tomorrow.

See, I’m of a different opinion. I think Ms Prior did amazingly well defensively, not so much (so far) on cross. I also felt that Mr Richardson was better on cross than he was at his defence.

I like how we all interpret things differently though. I also like how someone will point out something I’ve missed or have skimmed over and put it into context. It’s this sort of differing of opinion and one person picking up on something I hadn’t noticed that gives me confidence in this jury to be honest.

No problem, I should be around tomorrow to copy over if it’s helpful.

I liked it when she caught him on his "Oh, Im so meek, I hate confrontations" etc.
Slamming doors on the face of his Dad!
Shouting vile things in face of his son and also father!

I think the reason I’m less favourable towards Ms Prior with her cross came from the salt poisoning. I think that’s what made me less confident in her ability to nail down TH and poke holes because it came across as grasping at straws. I also found the part about TH being the one in control less believable. I am interested to see how she progresses though and am hopeful that some aspects of her cross causes at least one juror to question TH “innocence”.

I am more eager to hear the prosecutions cross. I think that is where TH defence will fold like a pack of cards.

Yes, i was thinking that too. Seemed so random to just come out with "at 1pm you poisoned Arthur in the bathroom with salt, didnt you". It just came from nowhere, with no back up!
The prosecutor is amazing, he comes across very professional and he will not hold back.

Yes, the salt thing was astonishing!!!
Maybe she has some proof?
It must be something ET had told her.
Very interesting!

I think Tustin will get one of the longest sentences we've seen in the UK for some time. I hope the same for Hughes but I'm not sure

The only proof of anyone with salt is ET. She was seen on the home CCTV with it in her hand. Ms prior is just doing her job, defending and poking holes.

Without a shadow of a doubt, and I say this with my chest, ET will be found guilty of the salt poisoning.

I’m in agreement with all of this!

I think so too.
But it was so surprising to hear he poisoned Arthur. Very strange! Maybe they both were into it?
The future will tell.

I agree, that woman is pure plain evil. No question about it.

I sincerely hope it's at least 25 years. The Brits are not known for being hard on child murderers
