Jesus how could he even think of s$% with ET, while poor Arthur was stood at the bottom of the stairs half dead. He is the lowest of the low. Too busy thinking of himself , no thoughts spared for Arthur.

I don’t think them having sex relates to the period of time where Arthur was gravely injured. By all accounts, TH was out when that happened and came home and started CPR. I believe in general, Ms Prior is stating that they would have sex whilst Arthur was awake downstairs.

Hughes admits he now 'hates' Tustin
Ms Prior says Hughes told officers in one of his interviews that he hit Arthur on the head with a slipper on June 15.

Hughes denies he actually did. He says Tustin told him Arthur had tried to hit her with a slipper but she "wrestled it off him and said: 'Let's see how you like it".

He reiterates he is not saying Tustin hit Arthur with a slipper.

Ms Prior asks if he now 'hates' Emma Tustin.

Hughes: "I do yes. At the time of these interviews I didn't. I believed what she had told me."

Part of the recording of the van conversation is played where Hughes said to Tustin he hit Arthur with a slipper.

Ms Prior puts it to him that he knew he was at fault during his police interviews.

Hughes: "I felt my job as a parent was to protect Arthur. I didn't do that so yes in that respect it was my fault."

He adds that 'parts' of his interviews were the truth.

Ms Prior: "How can we tell when you are telling the truth and know when you are lying?"

Hughes: "I don't know."

Hughes says he slapped Arthur with a force of 'nine out of ten'
The court is played living room footage from June 15 which shows Hughes holding Arthur by the scruff of the neck. He says it was because of Arthur's 'behaviour'.

Footage from later in the day is played. Ms Prior asks him why he is 'dragging' Arthur on this occasion.

Hughes says he had been told Arthur had called Tusitn's daughter a 'fat, ugly b****' while he had been out at the chip shop.

Footage from a few minutes later which shows Hughes dragging Arthur into the kitchen, is played.

Hughes says it was a 'follow-on' from the previous incident. He accepts it is 'appalling' behaviour.

Another living room clip is played which shows Hughes picking Arthur up off the floor, squeezing him before putting him down and slapping him on the legs.

Hughes says he had been told Arthur had headbutted Tustin's daugher. He describes the force he used when he slapped him as nine out of ten.

Hughes denies threatening to kill Arthur on June 15
Ms Prior says Arthur woke up around 3am on June 16 complaining of a headache. She reminds Hughes he had fallen over and banged his head outside Catherine Milhench's home the previous day.

Living room footage is played showing Hughes go down to Arthur in the middle of the night.

Hughes says he 'can't remember' if he had a headache and he did not see him bang his head but had been told that he had.

Ms Prior puts it to him by that stage he ignored Arthur if he said he had a headache.

Hughes: "No."

Ms Prior states Arthur was 'screaming' at Catherine Milhench's home on the morning of June 16.

Hughes says he was 'loud'. He accepts he was becoming 'more and more irate'.

Hughes: "I had Emma constantly saying 'what's he doing, he should be standing still, he's not been quiet, people are in bed'. It was a constant theme."

He denies he threatened to kill Arthur on June 15.

Hughes is accused of 'forcing' salt down Arthur with water
The court hears the recording of Hughes' interview where officers were discussing Arthur's cause of death. Hughes is heard saying he would not be surprised if there were issues with Arthur's lungs or kidneys.

Ms Prior: "You poisoned him with salt hadn't you Mr Hughes, that's why you thought his kidneys had given way. You had to force it down, force it down with water. That's why you thought his lungs had given in."

Hughes: "No not at all."

The officer is heard telling him there were approximately 130 marks on Arthur's body.

Hughes: "I could tell you what 129 of them was."

The officer said there were 30 marks to Arthur's head and neck.

He is heard describing how Arthur had been banging himself off walls and radiators. In the interview Hughes added: "On the Tuesday I hit him with quite a bit of force when I came back."

Hughes also said in his interview he 'didn't like slapping him' so he pressure-pointed him for ten seconds at a time.

He tells the court that was not true.

'You had lost complete control at that point'
Ms Prior: "Do you accept your son would cower in the corner because you were going to hit him?"

Hughes: "Yes."

He also accepts he sometimes missed Arthur and hit the wall and vacuum.

Ms Prior: "You had lost complete control at that point."

Hughes: "No. But I was under pressure from Emma."

Ms Prior says after Hughes returned home from Ms Milhench's property on June 16, he went to the bathroom for five minutes, took Arthur with him and 'had absolutely had it by then'.

Hughes: "No."

Ms Prior: "After you gave him the salt you went off shopping."

Hughes: "I didn't give Arthur the salt. I did go to the shops."

Ms Prior says he went Smyths toys shop and Iceland and adds: "You just needed to find some way of keeping out of the way for an hour-and-a-half."

Hughes: "No, not at all."

Aw yes, i was thinking it was some time in June for some reason. I wonder did he stay living with ET as he had it on tap, to he detriment of Arthur

I hope that the jury is excused for at least 10 years after this - it'll take that long for the nightmares to stop. Imo

Hughes denies not wanting to call an ambulance
Ms Prior asks after Tustin made the 'frantic' phone call to him reporting Arthur's collapse on June 16, why the first thing he did when he returned home was to put the shopping in the kitchen.

Hughes: "At that point I had to try and assess the situation. I didn't know what I was walking into. I had to assess the situation with the information I had been given."

Ms Prior puts it to Hughes that Tustin wanted to call an ambulance but he did not.

Hughes: "No, not at all I asked Emma three times to call an ambulance. My full attention was on Arthur. I thought Emma was in a better position to call an ambulance."

Ms Prior asks when his baby with Tustin was due.

Hughes: "I didn't know I never saw the pregnancy test. I was never told of any doctor's appointments, midwife appointments. I was told I don't care, I have a perfect son in Arthur."

Ms Prior says he knew very well Tustin was eight weeks pregnant and that he had spoken about it in texts to her.

Hughes admits he 'didn't do anything' to find out what happened to his baby, saying his priority was arranging a funeral for Arthur.

Ms Prior concludes her cross-examination.

TH got home from shops after ETs call saying Arthur had collapsed and first thing he does is put the shopping into the kitchen!!! What the hell!!!

I’m fairly certain this won’t be over by Monday. TH still has to be questioned by the prosecution, then there might be defence witnesses etc…

ETA: Looking like the week after next according to the last update of today.

The trial is adjourned until next week
Judge Wall forwards a jury question. He asks in the clip of Hughes 'dragging' Arthur in the living room whether his feet were still touching the floor. Hughes says that they were.

Judge Wall addresses the jury: "The reality is there is a significant possibility this trial will drift over to the week after next. Can you make sure you are available that week. I am sorry about that but it is looking fairly likely now."

The trial is adjourned until next week.

Did he really say that he doesn’t think he was abusive? Is that how he was treated at home growing up?

It seems like his entire excuse is that when he thought ET’s lies were true, his behaviour was justified. Now that they’re no longer together and knows that a lot of what ET said was manipulation and lies, its no longer ok. He was manipulated into being abusive! He just didn’t want to rock the boat so he abused Arthur instead.

What he doesn’t seem to understand is that regardless of what was true and wasn’t, regardless of what he believed, and even if Arthur’s behaviour was appalling, the abuse he put him through would’ve never been ok or justified

I could kinda see someone doing that on autopilot while in shock, it's the kind of thing I might do while really not thinking straight... but when in combination with everything else, it sure doesn't add a good look to the picture, most people's first priority would be their injured child...
