I just think she was aggressive full stop. In my experience pain meds don't make a person aggressive, they can lower inhibitions to a certain extent but tend to make people giddy. As you build up a tolerance that giddiness reduces and people level out in terms of being able to live a normal life relatively pain free. It could be that if she had stopped taking her psych meds then all rational thought and her ability to analyse and deal with a situation is reduced. I don't doubt her childhood left her with emotional trauma, but there's a line that most people wouldn't ever cross. And I'm somewhat sceptical as to if she did stop taking her psych meds

Yeah it seems to be in her, she was up for assault as a teen too wasnt she. I always try to find a reason for behaviour, but sometimes people are just plain evil.
Its hard to believe anything she says, her barrister could have suggested she said that about her meds, or can they do that?

I got the impression she kept mentioning being off her meds so she can use that as a mitigating factor. She said she didn't want to be addicted to them. But she mentioned it several times. As well as blaming Arthur for every problem in the house. She showed no remorse at all, it was disgusting to read her testimony blaming this little boy for all her woes

Oh yes, i was forgeting that about lockdown and it was very early into lockdown too, so very frowned upon

Doesn’t make it accept

Doesn’t make it morally right of course, but think it was a case of “every man for himself”. I bet the hairdresser and partner are feeling immensely guilty now. The did do the right thing in the end by giving evidence though. It just happened a year too late.

A reason for her behaviour was her upbringing.
Monsters are created by abusive domestic environment.
Nobody is born evil.

This is very true.

I wonder what she was diagnosed with, if its bipolar coming off her meds would have a big affect i would have thought.
Oh she totally did, it was all poor her and blaming a 6 year old for all the problems in the house. Funny how he never had any issues in school and only seemed to act up once he stepped foot in her house.

Not always true, sometimes it’s the environment around them. TH for example, his upbringing was the parallel opposite to ET. Stable home and family, he still ended up a monster.

She still blamed Arthur for his own death on the stand. She is beyond redemption in my eyes

If his upbringing was so ideal why was he self harming?
Why called himself "thick"?
What about his low of the lowest self esteem?

Yes, i agree. And the thing that really stuck in my head is the fact she called Arthur a f$%$% to her cellmate. Saying the f##$$ tried to escape. Even after all this time she clearly has no remorse for his death or shame in calling him that after causing his death. Beyond sick.
Also why didnt she just let him escape, would have solved all her problems. But i think she enjoyed torturing him

The people I deal with have normally had a mental health crisis because they've came off their meds. Sometimes they can be very aggressive and challenging. They take any slight as a provocation and can't deal with any transgression, however minor. People who've been abused and neglected have altered brain chemistry, and poor coping mechanisms. Things you or I could brush off become massive issues to them. They're in a constant state of fight or flight. I've not read her case notes so I'm just generalising. In my 16 years of practice I've never met an individual who has planned and executed such an insidious plan to treat a child like this. I've met people who've threatened to kill me, but it's a spur of the moment thing and they show no evidence of forward planning.

Bullying at school? Not achieving academically like his peers? We’ve already heard he struggled academically…

It’s not always “home life” that causes issues with children. It can be peers, educational settings, after school activities, the wrong crowd.

I wouldn’t place blame on TH parents for how he turned out. Especially after testifying in court as a prosecution witness….. just saying.

I am not sure that I agree with that. Hughes had a normal, caring upbringing by all accounts but joined in with the evil behaviour.

Yeah so if she is telling the truth about her meds and childhood, it would explain her behaviour somewhat but not the extent of the cruelness.
Will we learn more about her after the trial i wonder

I read a comment on fb from someone who went to school with TH saying they hope he gets what he deserves. So maybe he wasnt so nice in school

In what context? That he gets what he deserves for what happened to Arthur or that he gets what he deserves because of what he did at school?

I think it was for what he did to Arthur. But the way they said i was in school with him made me think he didnt like him in school. But that was me jumping to conclusions

I wonder if it's a case of folei a deux? It's the only thing I can think of to explain why he changed so much? I read elsewhere that he was a good dad by someone who knew him. He'd take Arthur to football practice. Someone else used to see him at kids parties and said he was a good, normal dad.

I read elsewhere that ET had tried to run a group of girls over, one of the girls had been seeing her brother and they'd split up. She was well known in the area for being a loose cannon
