The man was arrested in central Bath a few hours after the attack. I'm not sure of the exact circumstances, but he seems to have been ruled out very quickly.

There are composite sketches from 1994 and 1999, but I haven't ever seen anything from 1998.

Okay it could well be 1999, I lived in Bath for a few years and I’m fairly sure that I saw a sketch in a local newspaper, would you have access to that composite sketch?

The distorted nostril in the 1999 photofit is particularly interesting.

It also looks like his eyes aren't straight either.

A prominent lower jaw also.


Looks like a hybrid combination of a boxer, farmer, and traveller to me.


He seems very distinctive and it's surprising that he was never identified and caught.

The man from the 1994 composite was described as being between 26 and 32 years of age.

The man from the 1999 composite was described as being around 24 years old.

Some people are youthful, but the offences started in 1991, which makes me doubt the perp was only 24 by 1999.

I fail to see much similarity between the 2 composites.

He wears a variety of outfits, including bomber jacket, barbour jacket, work trousers etc. He wears caps and hats, to hide his face, apart from in 1994 when for some reason he lets himself be seen by various witnesses.

He is forensically aware and uses condoms. He seems to know the local police procedures and often leaves long gaps between attacks. On several occasions he's reckless though and attacks twice in quick succession.

His favoured MO is driving victims to isolated locations in their own cars, but on occasions he also abducts victims on foot.

I fail to see much similarity between the 2 composites.

It's a possibility IMO. It depends if the cap dropper from the 1999 composite was the same man who abducted and raped a woman a mile away and 15 minutes later, just as she returned home from work.

The last known attack was in May 2000. The police had made a nationwide appeal for information earlier in the year. Within a week of the last attack, there was a reconstruction made which also went nationwide.

In January 2001, the police started mass DNA testing 2000 POIs, which might have scared the offender off for good.

At the time, I remember thinking that the man in the 1999 photofit looked very similar to a person that I had seen in ‘all bar one’ pub in bath on two occasions, guy was looking for trouble, was very loud and openly obnoxious and had a very distinctive stare, hence I remembered him but the two occasions were very wide apart and that’s why I didn’t do anything which I should’ve done…. Hindsight!
I do recognise that this could’ve been simply me attributing the guy in the pub who was quite frightening with the criminal photofit and I’m fully cognisant of that.

“Might of” It either scared the guy straight or made him change tactics like Mr. Cruel (who I think is a forensic scientist). If it’s the latter he might be active in a different part, using condoms to prevent any semen getting out that would be examined for DNA testing. Which, honestly, would make him a lot more terrifying.
