Imo that sounds like the police recieved information about the location

I thought the same thing, but it's impossible to know if that information was from a dog walker, the person who's been charged, or someone else?

When there is a high profile missing person case people are always urged by police to check their CCTV, I suspect someone was looking through CCTV of the car park of the beach or something and found some suspicious stuff on there and alerted police

Accused murderer Ackland makes first crown court appearance

"No pleas were taken at this hearing and an application for bail was not made."

Ok then.
From the same article.

..........The next hearing, when Ackland is likely to enter a plea, was listed for January 24 2022 in front of Judge Linford in Plymouth.

Ackland will remain in custody until then.

Judge Linford directed all future hearings will be held in Plymouth and fired a warning to the media and social media users over the dangers of publishing inaccurate material that could jeopardise a future trial........

It says he was wearing a yellow and green prison uniform. Don’t they give those to prisoners who are an escape risk?

More on the green/yellow uniform:

"Prisoners who have made active attempts to escape from custody are placed on the holding prison's Escape List. These prisoners (sometimes referred to as "E men" or "E List men") are required to wear distinctive, brightly coloured clothing when being moved both inside and outside of the prison and are handcuffed. In addition they are required to change cells frequently and to have their clothes and some of their personal property removed from their cell before being locked in for the night."

So he tried to escape since last week? That's a fair inference I would think. Jesus.

Here’s Charlie B for reference. It’s very bright and difficult to pass off as civilian clothes. He was previously seen wearing a grey prison tracksuit. I would love to know what stunt he attempted to pull. I’m sure we will find out more later
Judge linford will be working on this trial. He has the nickname “lenient Linford” which is not good….

Perhaps his escape attempt is the reason today's hearing was held in private.

Trying to escape...sounds like realisation and panic setting in

Well I never knew that! Thanks for the info.

This is the Ministry of Justice's guidance to prisons on "E-list" prisoners: https://www.justice.gov.uk/downloads/offenders/psipso/psi-2015/psi-10-2015.pdf

It's pretty serious. You don't get that status just for having a 'plan' or some drawings of the prison grounds or from walking around "out-of-bounds" areas of the prison grounds. This suggests there was a serious attempt or serious plan/conspiracy to escape.

This is just madness.

Sounds like he’s hating prison already. This gives satisfaction to many after what he’s allegedly done.

Thanks for the updates. Am surprised re an escape - on balance I would think he's safer inside. If he gets out, there would probably be no need for a trial. Well, at least not for him.

Will we hear what prompted the E List outfit?

Kind of shocking when he's only been in jail for just over a week, and the indication that it would have been a serious attempt to escape.

We need a serious journalist to ask the question. The ban on reporting shouldn't cover the accused's behaviour in prison as it's not directly related to the alleged offence. But all the journos today were all like "oh never seen that uniform before" and didn't seem to bother asking why.

I've not read this before , re the witness and where Bobbi was sitting at the bus stop

A passing driver, Stuart Fullard, 54, said he saw McLeod sitting on a metal rail at the bus stop. He noticed her because she was dressed distinctively in ripped jeans with fishnet tights underneath and because she looked so young – the 18-year-old was less than 5ft and could have been mistaken for someone much younger. Fullard has a daughter himself and said he felt nervous for her in the drizzly dark. “But she didn’t look as if she had a care in the world.”
