Caspar Blackburn missing: CCTV shows last known movements of 22-year-old man

The 22-year-old was last seen at the Slug and Lettuce Waterside in Sale, Trafford , in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was sitting on a bench outside the bar with friends, but did not go back inside with the group. Caspar has not been seen since.

Caspar has not turned up for his job as an assistant manager of Carpetright, in Macclesfield , and has not been to collect his Nissan 350Z left outside a friend’s home.

Detectives have now released CCTV footage showing him leaving the Slug and Lettuce at 1.55am.

They are urging anyone who was in Sale on Saturday night or the early hours of the morning to get in touch with any photos or videos they took in the area.

Meanwhile, they have resumed their search of the Bridgewater Canal and surrounding areas in their search for Caspar, whose disappearance has been described as ‘totally out of character’ by his distraught father.

“He’s walked out of the pub, sat on a bench outside and he’s not been seen since. He only had a t-shirt on, his phone’s not been used since it’s just really worrying that no-one has heard from him since.

“There are lots of people who have contacted us and we’re really grateful for that information, but we really need anyone who was in Sale in the early hours of Sunday morning who may have seen Caspar, even if they are not sure, to contact us.

“Particularly, anyone who may have any photos or video images that they took in sale in the early hours of the morning, we could really do with seeing those to make sure that Caspar can’t be seen somewhere there.
“We are looking through every part of Sale, we’ve got lots of officers out there searching. We are currently searching the canals too as he was last seen near the canal.

Meanwhile, the police underwater search unit have been seen carrying out searches in the Bridgewater Canal, close to where Caspar was last seen.

The Sale community are organising a mass search on Saturday afternoon and will be meeting where Caspar was last seen.

A Facebook post said people will be meeting outside the Slug and Lettuce at 2pm.

Caspar’s best friend and other friends have also been searching the surrounding area and putting up posters where Caspar has links to in Sale, Altrincham, Carrington and Urmston.

His father, who is recovering from a kidney transplant, has said it is “out of character” for Caspar to go missing.

This bar appears to be right on the canal....like RIGHT on it. Even if it wasn't, the curb between the sidewalk and canal is so non-existent one could stumble right off it in the dark without much of a sound.

We have seen this so often it should have its own name. Rivercide, perhaps.

It's so sad to see yet another case of a young man missing after leaving friends near water.

I hope he's found safe.

Man, no matter how frequent this is, it never gets any easier to hear. I hope young people become more aware of how important it is to never leave your friends alone, especially when they are intoxicated. RIP Caspar.

Edit: And really, put some bloody rails on that canal.

Police searching for missing man Caspar Blackburn have found a body in the Bridgewater Canal in Sale.

Caspar, 22, disappeared during a night out at the Slug and Lettuce Waterside in Sale, early last Sunday morning, October 1.

Officers have confirmed that a man’s body was recovered from the water near Springfield Road in Sale, shortly after 10am this morning, Saturday, October 7.

Formal identification is yet to take place but Caspar’s family have been informed.

It’s upsetting that no one ever seems to see or hear these men when they fall into the water.
