Well, there can't be too many 20 year olds who go nightclubbing with their fathers.....

Sad though it is to contemplate, given it is now more than 5 days since he was last seen, plus his physical state at time, I think it is likely he did fall into the water somewhere.

Sad, but true. We've seen this outcome far too often for my liking this month :(.

Police confirm canal search in city centre is for missing Charley Gadd

Man I am so sick of seeing this happen to kids over & over. I just don't get it. Why the water? Every time, the water? I know guys will pee in it or whatever but they could just as easily pee on a tree or what have you. I can't wrap my head around why this cannot stop happening.

Charley still hasnt been found yet despite extensive searches in the canal. I understand the canal has to be searched due to its reputation but the river Irwell which leads into the Manchester Ship canal also needs to be looked at as this was near to Charleys last known point.

Are they using sonar?

They were looking in the Irwell.

Divers were pictured on a boat on the River Irwell on Thursday while one member carried out an underwater search.

Media says police & underwater search teams including divers, they don't appear to have found anything so far, this was in my local paper this morning as I live close by to where Charley is at University, I seem to remember it being reported in the national press a while ago that there was a higher than expected number of young men going missing around the Manchester Canal area, there was speculation that there was a pusher which I think the police/coroner etc ruled out but it does seem that there is a lack of safety barriers by the canal.

The parents of missing student Charley Gadd have today issued an urgent plea for members of the public to help them find their son.

Police divers have been combing a canal following the disappearance of an Essex University student who went missing after a night out with his dad.

Charley Gadd, 20, who lives in Colchester, hasn’t been seen since the early hours of Saturday morning after he left the Warehouse Project venue in Manchester.

In a statement, his dad Jolyon Gadd said that he was with his son during the evening and into the morning, and said they’d been having a “lovely time together”.

But at around 1.10am, he said that the film and media student “ran off” and had not been seen since despite his attempts to locate him

He added that his whole family was “extremely worried" for him.

Police divers dressed in scuba outfits were seen on part of Manchester’s canal network near the Lowery Hotel, in the Greengate area, as they continued their search.

Ugh, please start talking about building some barriers. It has to be doable.

Are they sure the other young men who have drowned in the past few years didn't have anything in common (visiting the same few bars prior?) I am just wondering, not speculating, not trying to start a rumor.

Search ended for day in the Irwell.

A week around and still not found. Can't imagine how torturous it must be for his family.

Fearing the worst. Thinking of his family and friends.
