of course its not impossible, but I dont think its a mystery boyfriend....he may be a boyfriend, but I think hes known by at least one of the four ....one of them is either guilty or is protecting or afraid of the perp....otherwise at least one of them would have told the police and the media that the last time they saw claudia she had dark hair

The police were told very early on in the investigation that she had gone a bit darker plus they were also able to see from cctv footage of the day before.
But I’m guessing and imo , they used the best closeup and more recent photo of her .

@Yozzer if you honestly think that ‘blood is thicker than water ‘ and btw very valid statement, then you’re not going to crack the case . I say give up just like the police have done !

popejohn...I think you're probably right about the police...this was probably the best close up photo or they forgot about. the hair.
but if id have been one of. the friends id have made very sure the media made the hair colour issue public, because I, for one, would have ruled out a dark haired woman unless the situation had been very unusual and then id have thought it was another woman

unless you really concentrated on the features...and you probably wouldn't have had a chance to. do that...the hair colour can make a face look different

I dont know if the police know who did it...but im pretty sure they know who knows

By cracking the case I always mean by having a successful prosecution.
Innocent until proven guilty

Came across this random info which I hadn't read before. Does this mean Claudia did have access to a computer?
Claudia police hunt driver of Ford pick-up
'Claudia had ordered clothes from Next which were being delivered two days after she vanished, proving that she had not planned to go anywhere.'

Patrick Barkham: Missing Claudia Lawrence - Ten days of helplessness

This is an article from the guardian covering the first ten days of CL disappearance
Please note the references to her knowing a police officer which we know now that it was a lady officer
Please note the references that Claudia had the use of her father’s car on occasions and this car would most probably be a much newer car and she would have been tempted to travel far in it say to visit her sister in Derbyshire and other places.
Please note the references to a secret boyfriend in the first week of the investigation
Please note the references in the first week of the investigation police asking newspaper and presumably members of the public not to approach the parents
Please note that in the very first week of the investigation Gollway talked about the possibility of Claudia getting into trouble in the evening and not necessarily in the morning .

Curious to know where that info ( re cloths) came from ?

Should could have had access to a computer at the Uni usually comouters are avail for use for study in a library or computer room.. But Next catalouges were widely distributed to households for a small charge so I think she had a Next catalouge at home and ordered through that.

popejohn...you still haven't answered my question about blood being thicker than water

my maths teacher was right...I am being dense....id have thought it was standard for police to ask the public to give the family privacy....what is the significance here

are you hinting that her sister knew about a mystery boyfriend and hasn't said anything

Sure Claudia had access to computers at uni and her parents, friends etc....which makes you wonder did she use emails to stay in regular touch with anyone?

This would be more likely IMO
