I think her father would have lent her the money, wouldn't he...or are we back to a present for dan

according to the report, the police think that alley man is a local and they're appealing to the public for identification.

the police intensely interviewed the four and, presumably, all the local men of interest....so if they'd thought alley man was one of them, couldn't they. have claimed identification and put it to the test.

im not putting this very well, but what I mean is, if a local had come forward and said they knew who alley man was, wouldn't there have had to have been some kind of. expert attestation of the ccv footage, and, if the police knew who alley man was, couldn't the. same criteria have applied.

in other words, do we assume that alley man was not one of the men they'd interviewed

I think we should assume the police do not know who he is full stop. That is why they keep asking for him to come forward.
Also in the tv show an ex police officer thought he was not local .

That’s a well written interesting article and I concur with most of it. I’ve just got back from 3 days in York, I visited every CL site going. I went in the nags head for a pint. It was Monday afternoon and the half of the pub I sat in was dead but when I went to the other side to walk round to the toilet it was quite busy. It was all older builder looking types. It’s been refurbished since her day but there is a Jukebox on the wall I wonder if it the same one she played that Elton John song on. I thought it seemed a perfectly nice boozer, but I was Monday afternoon and not a Friday night at kicking our time but it didn’t feel rough or threatening at all. I also went in the acomb and i recognised the landlord Paul Harris outside doing some minor decorating work. That did feel rougher but I still didn’t feel uneasy in there. I visited the suspects addresses as well like smelling etc. It seemed a respectable area of York all things considered. I also drove up to Malton which on a Tuesday evening was completely dead, not a place for a youngster. Affluent and quaint though!

He might have offered the money for the car to be fixed in order for her to be safe travelling to work but ‘ come on you’re off to Cyprus again ? Fix your car first I would have said to her .

sorry, popejohn, being dense today....dont understand what you mean about the phone call coming at the right time
I mean re case you mentioned ( and I have not herd about that case ) you say the young woman had a phone call before she met him.
Now in Claudia’s case some people here believe she was already with her perpetrator when the calls came in !

  • #589
oh, I see popejohn...its irrelevant really, but, in the case I mentioned, I dont know if she had a phone call...I think he was just there at the party or club she went to. I have no fixed opinion as to whether claudia was already with the perp and whether she was at home or at their place

what you said about money for Cyprus is what I meant too....and that her father would probably not have lent her the money for a present for dan....do the remarks. on dans Facebook page imply that he'd heard that someone who'd lent her money was responsible for her death or is it just banter.

id never thought of the nags head as having a threatening atmosphere....more that there was a hard core of people doing criminal business there....I guess if you dont mention claudia they're happy to have your trade.

Borrowing money from lenders is quite common and perhaps could explain away the sightings of one or two of the men Knocking at her door .Not necessarily sinister may I add .
But lenders are not likely to come forward even if they are completely innocent of harming her .

From what I understand the motorist witness observed these two men for some 3 minutes or more while sat in traffic and and described one as asian with bags under his eyes
Im fustrated that the police have never produced an artist sketch or Efit of these two men or the man that turned up at her door unexpectedly.
Im sure uploading some artists impressions/Efits to the website would help enormously.
Come on Cold Case help us out a bit we really want fill in the gaps and help identify these people.

He said on either March 10 or 13, a female driver stuck in traffic saw two nervous-looking men at Claudia’s front door in the early afternoon.

“One of the men, an Asian male, appeared to try the door – whether with a key or whether he just tried the door handle, we don’t know,” said Det Sup Galloway. “They were watched by the witness for three or four minutes, as she approached the roundabout at Malton Road.

“There could have been a legitimate reason, we don’t know, and I would appeal to these men to come forward.

“If they were salesmen or there was any other reason why they were there, please come forward.”

The Asian man is described as being in his early 20s, 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build, with a thin pointed nose and dark areas under his eyes. The second man is described as taller, with short dark hair and a heavier build. He was wearing a Crombie-style coat.

its a bit odd that they were trying the. door....unless they had a fixed appointment to repair an appliance or whatever...but they'd usually have had some kind of overall etc.....and even then....

two of them would suggest to me that it wasn't a boyfriend issue

money or drugs, likely.

id guess it looks as though alley man didn't live locally but came round from time to time as heworth was part of his drugs or money lending patch...or both.

of course, the gang may have sent different people on different occasions.

we can't be sure. that some of the sightings weren't invented.

if claudia was in debt it may have been to a friend and they just lost. their temper with her

Alleyman's one a difficult one we are only being shown activity for the evening of the 18th and morn of the 19th so we dont know for sure if he was in Heworth Place before or after those dates for sure.
Its possible he was a contracter working on the college new science block and CL had met him at the college, or out socially..perhaps a contracter that had a set contract which would tie in with the text CL sent to JK saying she had to work 12 straight shifts

of course I can't be absolutely certain, but I dont think the text to jk was genuine.

I imagine the police would have been able to find out who he was if he had been a contractor....and I dont think he'd have been able to clean things up so efficientl

alley man may not have been directly responsible for Claudius death...but the times certainly make him a poi

No you don’t loose your temper otherwise you’ll never get your money back
Re men at her door very early on in the investigation people ( don’t ask me who or when ) have said that they had something to do with DIY .
Remember Claudia was in that house for just 2 years .

it is a mistake to lose your temper, certainly, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen....especially if it wasn't a professional money lender, but a friend or acquaintance who didn't have experience in these matters

I dont know or wish to know any of the people in this case but it puzzles me that if there was hard core people doing criminal business there none of them ever seem to have been charged with any offence. Why is that!
