Watched the videos and I too am convinced it's the same person. And a minute between each turn around, where could he have been for a minute??

The CCTV seems to be from a different camera though? Why would both cameras not have picked up the same images?

I believe that her phone went off at 12.10 pm on Thur 19th March, I'm not sure that they know whether it was switched off or whether it ran out of battery charge.

This is the clip of the car which passed Claudia's house at 5.42am on 19th March.

http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/13155

Do you think the police linked this vehicle seen braking at 5.42 on Thursday 19/3 with the cctv clip of a person walking towards the rear of Heworth Road which police estimated to be 5.50 that same morning?

OK. Lets go back to CCTV man. 2 x one minute walks up Heworth Place. A dead end road which he approached and left in the same direction.

Reasons?

He was picking something up from a house.
He was picking something up from a car.
He was checking if someone was in.
He was having a wee in the alley.

Anything else?

I don't believe Claudia turned it off. If she was home alone she'd have been fast asleep at that time.

It went off at lunchtime....

On both days, might he have been checking to see if Claudia's car had been repaired and was back on the road - ahead of offering her a lift to work? I believe she parked it on the Lime Court end of Heworth Place and it had been in a garage for some time.

I think he'd have been able to see her car from the junction though.

The more I think about it the more it is strange behaviour. Trying to imagine reasons why someone might casually walk into (what is essentially) a cul-de-sac and straight back out again. Parked car is my best bet, I assume the homeowners will have ruled out visits to their houses. I doubt 3o seconds is even long enough to get to the back of Claudias house.

Where did he come from?

I believe that the "morning" clip was first released on 15th May 2009.
If the newly released "evening" clip is the same man (and it looks to me like it is) then one wonders why the police have released it recently? Presumably because they believe it's a different man or possibly because they no longer believe the morning clip to be RC?

We know NYP are reviewing everything with fresh eyes. Perhaps, having publicly named the likely person in the original cctv clip, they have decided to show the 2nd one in a bid to obtain fresh information about this individual 'without prejudice' so to speak. I can't find the original cctv clip on NYPs website anymore.

I'm a bit confused because Mr Carpenter's houses are reported as being in East Parade, but HydraMan seems to be quite sure they are in Heworth Place.

Hi Cherwell. I believe he lived in a property in E.Parade, owned another house on the same road and owned a number of rental properties including (according to HM) one or two in Heworth Place. It would certainly throw some light on why he was in that particular location on the cctv clips.

His main residence was at 61 East Parade which photos (here) at the time showed it being searched. Cartwright owned a number of buy-to-let properties in the area including the two in Heworth Place and another on East Parade was the reports said was also searched. There is no shortcut from East Parade to Heworth Place unless you go through private gardens.

I doubt Claudia would have parked in Limes Court as that is private parking for St' John's University student residents only. Heworth Place is a private road owned and controlled by the residents who understandably reserve the parking rights for themselves (hence all the no parking notices). Claudia would have had to park her car a number of streets away to avoid the parking restrictions nearby. One of my ideas is she may have been in contact with someone in Heworth Place in an attempt to negotiate the use of a spare space.

I fear the only way to resolve this case would be to find a body, and if I were the police I would concentrate on very detailed searches of the neighbouring properties on Heworth Road & Heworth Place.

I was just thinking, maybe as she was a regular she was allowed to park her car in the nags head car park?

Since she was a regular and helped with the menus at the pub I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn she parked her car there.

This is the first time I've read about the rucksack possibly seen on Heslington Road and Walmgate Stray.

http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/13421

Also, in our efforts to locate Claudia's missing blue and grey Karrimor rucksack, we want to hear about a similar rucksack that was spotted near the University of York at about 1pm on Thursday 19 March 2009.

The location was a grassy area off a footpath which runs between Heslington Road and Walmgate Stray, which is just past The Retreat if you were heading towards the university.

"If someone temporarily left the rucksack there and can confirm it is not connected to the investigation, please come forward as soon as possible.''

Does anybody know what the industrial buildings are to the left of Walmgate stray?

Thank you. I'm inclined to trust your account more than those of the media, who frequently get things slightly wrong.
Just as I seem to have misremembered the chap's name myself! :)

Possible, and yes I had considered that. However I think many of the regulars were a local residents who also parking issues in that area and if the manager set this precedent he would be under pressure from other regulars for the same privilege. As he did not own the pub I would have thought he find himself in trouble with the company that did own it if he allowed locals to permanently use up parking spots.
