I think, Claudia's way to University was 3mi (!!) and in this time of the year much too dark for her to walk alone.
"Gone", the book:
On Claudia's way to her work place (Melrosegate) there was seen a driver in a white, old, dirty, rusty van who intended to speak to a female jogger. Another witness had had the same experience, but the van had the wrong colour: burgundy, I think. The jogger had seen the white old van several times before Claudia vanished. After her disappearance she had not seen this van on Melrosegate.
I have nothing new to add to this and know everything has been discussed previously but I agree with FromGermanys point about the walking to work.
I remember this well from the beginning how Claudias father offered her a lift that morning to work and how her mum offered to pay for her a taxi (I didn't know about the mums offer back then though) yet Claudia refused both offers knowing it was so dark at that time of morning in March.
I wondered at the time whether Claudia refused the offer as she knew she had a lift to work the next morning but just didn't mention it to dad as he would have maybe asked who from (I would have done)
Or she was staying at someone else's house and wouldn't need a lift, again didn't want to reveal to dad that she was and may have felt obliged to say who's if she mentioned it.
Or someone was staying at her house who would walk to work with her or wasn't staying at her house but would meet her in the morning to walk to work with her ( the couple on the bridge, he was a smoker and there was a cigarette butt in Claudias car)
If there was someone staying at Claudias house that night they may well have already been there when she was talking to her mum on the phone, quietly in the background. Claudia just didn't reveal it to mum.
As for the hair dyes, it's hard to form a theory about them without knowing whether the bottles were placed on the toilet by the police for the photo or left there by Claudia or some one else in the house. If they were placed there by Claudia then I don't feel she stayed the night in her home as she would have removed those bottles to be able to use the toilet. Just because the dishes were empty doesn't prove the hair dye had been used on hair. It could have been mixed in preparation to use, then something untoward happened or they changed their mind and it got scooped out and flushed down the toilet to make it look like she had dyed her hair.
Perhaps the dyes could mean either Claudia was colouring her own hair or someone was colouring it for her. Considering she had recently had her hair coloured professionally, it's highly unlikely she'd want to risk spoiling it with a home kit.
Or perhaps Claudia could have been colouring some one else's hair. If she was, then with it being blonde colours then perhaps it was a females hair she was colouring as when a man colours his hair, he tends to go darker. Just an opinion of mine and nothing to support that.
With Claudia being a prolific texter, the fact that these stopped around 8.30pm that night, it seems possible something out of the ordinary started to happen around that time.
I also feel due to the secretive life Claudia is alleged to have lived, then it's very possible the perpetrator could equally, be either a man or a woman. Just my opinions of course and nothing to factually support them.
I also believe the police will find who is responsible for Claudias disappearance, eventually.
