I was going to suggest she may have been dealing on Melrosegate with the hoodie but felt it was disrespectful so withdrew it.
I agree, she doesn't seem to have been involved in the drug scene does she from what friends say?....if she had, that would provide another very plausible avenue of exploration ie caught up with organised crime/county lines/general unsavoury scene/deals/random folk that goes with that underground culture, but police have never mentioned links to that culture. However...you never know what goes on, I personally wondered about a drugs connection ie accidental death and friends panicked. I did see some weird witness statement somewhere, will see if I can find it...older couple sure they saw her early AM in 'going out clothes' and another driver who was sure he saw her on a roadside crying 4am, but that makes no sense really as she didn't have her make up (although maybe she just took cash/mini make up - I don't take bank cards wen I go out out!)

Sometimes innocent people get caught up in bad things (that they have never encountered before/encounter for the first time) ie witness/get caught up in some dodgy business through no fault of their own. Wrong place/wrong time/through new boyfriend/friends etc..can't find the articles to quote the potential witnesses now, will keep looking.

interesting theory. If she went out, out, who would she have gone with? A man or a female friend?

more thought. If she was going out, out, perhaps she packed her stuff for sleepover, hence why backpack and work stuff missing, and no signs of a crime scene at her home - but then surely, someone must have seen her when they were out? So many possibilities!

I've just read the whole 'Gone' book again tonight (and vast press pieces/forums etc). It is very interesting. NYP strongly maintain someone/some people known to Claudia know what happened between 9pm and 6am on the 18/19th and that in time this may finally come to light. NYP release very little info. On the case, I think for operational reasons (despite case being reactive, not active), I think they are desperately waiting for a person/people involved/who know what happened to slip up, confess or implicate an involved person. Forensic is obviously nil, but IMO they have strong circumstantial evidence on specific people known to Claudia. I've gone through all possibilities and am on about my 100th theory! ..... But without updates from NYP it's hard to know if my current thinking is correct, but I strongly believe Claudia knew the person/people and it was connected to the aftermath of a marriage breakdown, but I'm not saying anymore as (probably like others) a. I could be wrong!!! or b. I could be right... and therefore up against some trouble!

Definitely wasn't anywhere public as no cctv from pubs/streets of her that eve. etc. So either she was at home or she was picked up in a car and taken to someones house, probably IMO a boyfriend...My latest theory is based on an angry ex. But I'm not going in to detail!

I have today communicated with the author of the book 'Gone' who obviously has very good insight into the case (the book is based on interviews with Claudia's father and best friends Jen and Suzy and others connected to Claudia). I would thoroughly recommend it as it provides a full picture (up to 2013 - but I found it provides better updated info than the NYP website to this date!). The author, like the police, maintain Claudia was taken by someone Claudia knew and that someone ie the people directly/indirectly involved will eventually provide a definite lead that will result in the case being solved. I would welcome discussing this case with those that have read the book (as it answers a lot of the questions that are still being asked in this long/old thread). He obviously couldn't answer specific questions due to legal issues/speculation etc but is convinced the case will be concluded when the 'wall of silence' comes down. Who/why/what is causing this silence is unknown, everything else being discussed is speculation.

The 4 close male friends that were arrested but not charged (2015/6) due to 'lack of evidence for the CPS' is interesting as Claudia's friends strongly deny they would have been involved yet police say the prosecution case failed due to 'lack of cooperation from witnesses'...I am confused! Either the former is true and they really weren't involved, or the latter, in which case which witnesses are they referring to that aren't cooperating?! ... is that the wall of silence?
