@MajorLang The police said that the mobile signal was detected within 9 miles from the Uni and covered the Heworth area. Tockwith marks the 9 mile limit and it's in the sàme direction as Acomb.

On a few occasions after the lock-ins at the Nag's, finishing my drink or chatting out front on the benches, I first hand witnessed Claudia getting into taxis with her male friends to go to Acomb, but I never knew exactly where to. She was usually egged on to do so. Suzy had usually headed home by then, I wish I could remember more, Jen maybe went once but usually didn't go with either. Pete always went, I don't think Alistair ever did. I mentioned union_janes post in the context of my own experience: if it was common knowledge amongst them all about infidelity, and keeping quiet about it, then any extra layers members of their group were unaware of means they were probably being deceived too.

What I'm not clear about is whether police could extract her text messages from that old Samsung remotely? Then or now...
I reckon that they can extract the messages

Hi Moonsafari: Do you recall whether PR and JK were an official item in 2009, was he still married or was it 'on the rocks'?

I wonder if they could in 2009 or whether they have managed to garner more info in recent years during cold case reviews? I sure wish they could sharpen up those blurry cctv images.

You can see it on googlemaps
You can indeed - right outside the home of one of the arrested men - and CL's home, of course.

Claudia's phone may have been switched off in the Acomb area to frame someone from over there

@Kiri Completely agree. Many say that the police have messed things up and that they should do more. In my opinion, they have reached a point where they know what happened and who did it. They have been met with silence and due to not having the evidence that a good defence could pick holes in they have had to Halt. Even if they found a body, it would be unlikely that this would improve matters, unless the location linked to other evidence. They are keeping their powder dry in case they need it in court. I'm sure people are being watched.
Funnily enough, have you noticed how many times Heworth Road has been updated on google maps since 2009? 8 times! It's hardly a major ring road is it?

This is very telling.

Married but separated, he and Jen were unofficial then I think. They're still together

Hi Yozzer, yes that's what I meant. @moonsafari ends her blogpost with a v intriguing sentence. I always felt she was saying she was warned off.

Not warned off per se but I did have a strange encounter with Jen in 2015 that preceded us no longer being in contact.

@Yozzer I'm fairly sure if they couldn't extract remotely that they can't now. It was more about what technology could and couldn't do now.
I remember that you can extract the number that the call text came from as it could be itemised upon the bill then.
Anyone she phoned / texted or any incoming calls / texts would be identifiable but not the content.

@moonsafari Thank you, you have confirmed to me something that has been flowing through my thoughts for last few days

Reading up on this case, it seems so solvable, and yet years have past with nobody being brought to justice.
I hope the people involved don't go to their graves taking their horrible secrets with them. It must be a constant torment to her poor family. I read that they kept her house for years, so sad.

@moonsafari Its good to have your contributions here. I read your blog and found it to be far more insightful than so many articles on CL which are usually repetitive, particularly the media articles that continue to publish sightings of people that have now been explained it discounted by Police. I am surprised that the police haven't asked your opinion?

Yes I wondered too. If it wasn't Snelling (who lived in Burnholme) nor a taxi, nor someone who had driven along Malton Road, nor someone living/parked up on Heworth Road, nor someone who had driven along Heworth Green they must have driven from or through the fairly vast residential area around Stockton Lane (residential cctv?). Seems police are being deliberately open ended

Snelling did drive a light blue older style Ford Focus (think you alluded to this in your blog). There is one on his mother's drive in the 2012 googlemaps and when his house was searched and he was arrested in 2014, it was on the drive and remove for forensics. But you're right, it doesn't explain the odd circuitous route other than he thought a lot of CL and was prepared to go out of his way (using the route suggested) to collect her. This would explain police interest in him, especially if they were steered in his direction.

Thank you. I spoke v little about Claudia's disappearance for the longest time. Everyone seemed to have a lot of nothing to say/type, some of it incredibly cruel, and it put me off. Ten years down the line and I feel confident to speak on a few matters long past, in a more frank/direct manner than I would have done years earlier, when people's marriages were still at stake etc. I don't know anything the police need to know to solve the case.
