Well done to Judge, Jury and everyone involved in bringing these two utter disgraces to justice.
They should NEVER be allowed to be anywhere near children ever again.
Rest in peace Victoria who was failed on a tragic epic scale by the people who should have kept her safe.

She sacked 15 lawyers!

Also, lol at this bit...

He asked for a copy of the 3,500-page legal textbook Archbold, which covers the entirety of the criminal law in England and Wales, and at one point the judge said: "Do you want me to adjourn for three years while you do a law degree?"

Wow. I was not expecting that.

Well done to all the police and CPS etc involved in securing that conviction (I wonder whether her demeanour in the witness box was what secured the conviction this time round after the inconclusive trial last time ie - she didn’t really help herself and the prosecution was a bit tighter in its focus on her acting selfishly without thought for baby Victoria - something she then went on to demonstrate in the witness box!!)

I knew something might happen if I went out !

This is the best news I have read this year. Two years waiting for justice to finally be served on these two , who we can now officially refer to as guilty criminals.

From the couple's disruptive and unpredictable behaviour, to Marten’s accusations in the witness box about her aristocratic family, private detectives, and social services.

The judge accused them of trying to "sabotage" and "derail" their retrial.

"I have sat as a full time Judge now for thirteen years and I have never had that sort of attitude shown to me by anybody," His Honour Judge Mark Lucraft KC said about Marten one day.

The couple dominated and deflected, demanded and distracted.

They caused endless delays by not turning up.

Barristers were sacked. Others withdrew.

Marten got through an extraordinary number - 14 since their first hearing at the Old Bailey.

They disrespected the judge, were rude to some of the dock officers and would often chat during proceedings.

Moments after being convicted, Gordon angrily shouted from the dock: 'I'm not surprised by the verdict. It was faulty, it was unlawful. This is not over, it has just begun.'

Following two trials, costing taxpayers an estimated £1.6million, it can now be revealed that:

  • A national safeguarding panel is now looking at the landmark case as police have called for new laws to protect unborn children;
  • The couple were granted legal aid for their defence, hiring 18 lawyers to defend them at an estimated cost of £600,000 - yet she is a trust fund heiress worth £2.4million;
  • Gordon attempted to avoid trial, claiming he was more notorious than Wayne Couzens, the Scotland Yard police firearms officer who murdered Sarah Everard.

''Cross-examining, prosecutor Joel Smith KC then asked her if leaving her daughter’s body in a bag of rubbish was a “despicable thing” to do. Marten objected to his line of questioning, saying that Mr Smith was “diabolical” and a “heartless human being”.

''During the retrial, prosecutor Tom Little KC told jurors that in 1989, Gordon, then aged 14, held a woman against her will in Florida for more than four hours and raped her while armed with a “knife and hedge clippers”. Within a month, he entered another property and carried out another offence involving “aggravated battery”, Mr Little said.''

Considering that he is the top Judge in England, that really shows the huge level of disrespect that the Court, Judge, Counsel and staff had to deal with over two trials and a two year span.

Ah no, that's where you're wrong Mark. It is over. No amount of shouting or appeals is going to work now.

When you read that (brief) summary of the trials and tribulations of the trial it is incredible and brilliant news they managed to finally secure a conviction.

The hypocrisy of her claiming her family are privileged and that rules don’t apply to them when it very much appears she is describing herself.

And I can now understand what all those endless “legal submissions” referred to which were subject to reporting restrictions - no doubt in reference to her trying to sabotage the trials again (by mentioning MGs conviction which presumably his own lawyers had successfully argued could remain undisclosed) and then writing an article and doing a podcast about her experiences on trial.

Judge Mark Lurcraft must have the patience of a Saint!!
