What we learned from the earlier police statement

This will be the second time we've heard from the police today.
Here is a reminder of what they said earlier:
  • Det Supt Lewis Basford from the Met Police said an application for another 36 hours in detention for Constance Marten and Mark Gordon had been sought
  • He also said that the search for the baby continued and that it was possible “they have come to serious harm”
  • He added that support from the public has been vital so far, and continued to appeal for help, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour or items in gardens and sheds
  • Det Supt Basford said it was a "hugely difficult and painstaking search operation" covering 90 square miles

The outcome sadly feels inevitable, particularly with this being the 2nd press conference in a day. But I really, really hope this is one of the ones where I'm completely wrong.

I’m really hoping the couple have started talking.

MSM have reported that Constance was abandoned by her father at age 9 because he had some sort of overwhelming moment of affirmation that made him just up and leave his family and pop off on his jollies to Australia.

"In Australia he had an out-of-body experience while standing with a group of Aborigines on a clifftop. He also went whale watching - an event he found so emotional it left him crying 'almost non-stop' for a week."

Apparently buggering off and having a "midlife crisis" (AKA shunning responsibilities and getting high with the natives - JMO) was more important than his family/daughter.

Watching live on BBC news. Hoping so hard for a good outcome for this innocent baby.

Waiting for briefing to begin

Just to let you know, we're still waiting to hear the update from the police, which they've said will be significant. There appears to be a bit of delay.
Cameras and microphones are in place as we wait to hear statements from Det Supt Lewis Basford from the Met Police and Ch Supt James Collis from Sussex Police.

Gah.

The worst possible news. My heart breaks for that poor little baby who had the worst possible start in life. May they rest in peace
