I didn't realise the 50k reward was from an anonymous person... I know it probably isn't, but given the levels of mystery in this case, it sounds really suspicious

I wonder if they have announced there's only a week left to try and persuade someone/people to give them information. Especially after the announcement of the landfill search. I don't know why but these days I assume the police know way more than they're letting on and that every MSM announcement has a hidden agenda, to try and get people to give the information they need.

Probably a coincidence but a large fire broke out this a.m. at a factory not far from the Milton landfill site today. Just my suspicious mind working overtime as I also remember an unexplained fire in a hollow road dentists in December.

That's what I thought also.

I took a break for a couple of days so maybe I missed it but I thought the rewards were 50k from a 'local business couple' and 10-15 from the McKeague family? I don't know about higher amounts. Should go back to taking a break!

Only a '5 figure' sum is mentioned so haven't been able to find exact amount so the 50k was from memory. The Cambridge news of 18 Dec is interesting if someone could link it please? The Mckeagues stated in there that they believed C had "gone away" with a third party.

I think the reason to claim the money you have to call a number related to the family is because the police would not cope with sheer volume of calls. They keep saying the couple want to stay anonymous but N did let it slip that they were the couple with the betting shop or gambling site called top the lot! Did no one else see that? Also i think 50 k is a huge amount of money but to get someone to talk i think maybe it needs to be more

Thats interesting. Someone trying to get rid of evidence

Lurker here so apologies if I break the rules. The whole case is interesting but one particular recent detail stands out

"On-site preparatory work is already underway and the full scale search likely to commence around Wednesday 22 February once this initial work has been completed" https://www.suffolk.police.uk/news/missing-persons/corrie-mckeague

Why wait until the 22nd February to search the landfill from date of announcement? Yes there's 'preparatory work' that needs to be done but it still seems a very long time. Is it a possibility that police have received information on a body location but no perp details? Could they be delaying to see if a movement attempt is mounted by guilty party/s?

Something I have wondered too is if they have been watching since they announced "no search" and halted the dumping until now and to continue monitoring for reasons you are giving. We're probably overthinking but welcome Lambo good first post.

Exactly my first thought in both cases. The fire today held up traffic for several hours apparently (distraction?) and reportedly started at 07.20 inside some machinery so it probably was just an accident if they know the exact start time and reason already.

I agree with you this landfill should have been searched ages ago. I guess they have got to carefully back track and search the most likely spot where the waste from that time period is likely to be first. It must be awful for Corrie's family.

I think most of us can guess who the anonymous couple are but we have not been able to link it so far. Can you provide an allowed link? ( MSM, LE, or FC website only allowed)

Also, aren't they closing it down because they haven't had the calls, not because they've had too many? JMO.

Anonymous couple? This is getting stranger by the day

And why close down the reward? Why not keep it open?

But for the Mckeagues reward you call the police so you would have to call both numbers to claim both rewards, which is doubling the workload in actual fact (only for the police i might add) for all these people tripping over themselves to come forward MOO.

They did say that anything phoned into the family's lines would be passed straight to the police, though, and the police would have to verify that the information did lead to finding Corrie.

I have no idea how rewards work, I didn't know they had to be 'claimed'. But if the family are trying to get someone to come out of the woodwork before the landfill search ... in advertising to put a limited time on an offer is considered helpful to push someone into action 'now'. So it could be a reasonable tactic if there is a body there, and if someone's been sitting on their thumbs not knowing whether or not to make the call and 'shop' their friend or neighbour (who might be innocent) then maybe the time limit will give them the nudge they need...and any tips have to be checked out anyway, so it's not like a caller would be putting an innocent person in jail, they'd just be giving the police another line of enquiry that 'might' help solve the case.

It was a dental laboratory not an actual dentists. Just thought it was worth clarifying!

Thanks. And it was arson not an accident. (BSE fire)

And why close down the reward? Why not keep it open?

I see nothing wrong with remaining anonymous - were I to offer a reward I too would want to keep my name out of it. Last thing I'd want is chancers contacting me directly, or thinking I had a load of cash lying around.

Nor do I see a problem with it being closed - that's a decent sum and if no-one's come forward by now - considering how well publicised the case has been - they aren't going to. And if someone's trying to make up their mind whether to talk or not, realising they could miss their chance might sour them into action.

Actually I don't think it should have been done at the start. It's a huge job but the same amount of work whenever they do it now we know that nothing has been added since it was identified as possibly being significant.

It makes sense to me to do the other investigatiosn first. The police can't win though, if they do find a body they'll never be allowed to forget this but in their shoes I'd have tried other avenues first

I'd like to know where the manpower is coming from for the search, will it be police on overtime, police diverted from normal duty or civilian experts?

Especially setting the closing date just before the landfill search is going to start, makes perfect sense if you think someone might break cover, they won't get the money if the police find C first

Maybe the reward has already been collected. Make it look as if nobody has come forward would save the person from going into hiding or witness protection. Would not surprise me at all in this case.

Tis a difficult one to call though imo.

Corrie is a 'missing person', so until such time as LE have enough evidence to believe foul play could be involved in his disappearance I wouldn't expect something like searching landfill to be authorised.

Police investigations are evidence led, but we know zilch about evidence. All we know is that his phone pinged in BM sometime Saturday morning, but that alone surely isn't enough to start searching landfill?
There is much more LE must know by now to do this.
I so hope this landfill search successfully takes this case forward though.

I have had the same thought !
