I have never seen ramblers carrying a humungous bag like that. Hikers/campers maybe but ramblers usually just have the stick. I think he is a bag man.
I have for a 'day trip', he may have come for a special event or suchlike and equipped for a day. This age group IMO are very organised in what they take on trips out, maybe a fold up seat, a blanket, wet weather gear, etc My local church very often have Nature Walks, Bird-watching, historical things through out the year. Many of them starting at 6.30am and some through the night, depending on what it is they are doing. I wonder what time the Museum opened on that day as the WW2 exhibition was on at the Museum opposite Mcky D's. Perhaps he had traveled down to exhibit something or was going to set up? A bit random maybe but it would make sense as to why he hasn't been seen since, if he has traveled from another part of the country? MOO
