Yes. I struggled to explain it all in the title! Complicated and strange.

Yes very complicated by the sounds of it. I hope more info is shared to shed light on what really happened.

I think the thread for when they originally disappeared from Suffolk / Colchester and were subsequently found has gone, but a sad update today:
Strange case, had started a thread when they went missing, but since they were found ''safe and well'', the thread was buried, but this- w t heck?!
7 October 2025
''Lorna Nightingale, aged 70, and Emma Nightingale, aged 36, were reported missing to police in August, having last been seen in February and June respectively.
Suffolk Police have now confirmed that the pair were found safe on Tuesday 30th September''

''Lorna was pronounced dead at the scene, but it is understood that she could have died anytime between November 1 and December 11.
Emma, whose address was given in court as Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow, was remanded into custody.
She then appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on December 13 and is now due to appear at the Old Bailey in London on January 9.''

I think she looks 70s.
I don't think she looks anywhere near 90.

She doesn’t look 70, she looks at least 90.
I was just thinking the same thing. Mom looks much older-not looking too healthy or engaged. Maybe she had Alzheimers or something?

The mother did not looks very well in that photo. Her hair looks sparse, maybe she had been going through cancer treatment?

My aunt just turned 97, and she looks way younger than poor Lorna. Something was chronic here.

I worked in care facilities with elderly patients of late stage dementia and IMHO she looks exactly like them.

Oh dear, I remember the original thread. Never nice to see a name repeated on WS.... Anyone got any updates? Says Old Bailey appearance was supposed to be 9th Jan.

Very little found online after the first reports about the death in mid-December.

I think this is all new info but it was published in December 2025. The rest of the article is subscription only.

A woman strangled her frail mother and sat in a hotel room with the body for two days, a court heard. Emma Nightingale, 36, claimed Lorna Nightingale, 70, had been begging her to take her life for months. She said she gave her an overdose of sleeping pills and grabbed her mother around the neck when she started having a seizure. The body of Mrs Nightingale was only discovered by a horrified cleaner at the hotel in Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow….

I wonder if she was going to do it when they went missing before, but couldn’t bring herself to do it.

Not liking her being left in a hotel bed for a cleaner (or a.n.other) to find.

Strangulation seems brutal to me, with the force involved, on a mother. Smothering is less brutal I think, especially with bedding available in a hotel room. It doesn't sound right, IMO.

Agree, strangulation also so personal.
