I suspect her awkward honesty about her own doubts told against Cilliers here. If she wanted him to be got off, as she evidently did, she could have said she had sabotaged the kit to commit suicide. But she stoutly denied it. And she seems to have left him to look after the kit. So I am not surprised the jury had no doubts about this assertion (which I don't think Cilliers' defence made last time, incidentally).

I just heard on the ITV news that the interview with Victoria Cilliers will be on Good Morning Britain tomorrow morning. I don't know if BBC have it as well. Perhaps this is instead of an impact statement for the court?!

That is strong case of denial. Describing her husband as affectionate and caring. Apart from the parachute fall and gas pipe, does she not feel that the money issue and other women indicates betrayal and some serious issues. What else would it take for her to see the real relationship with him. Of course we don't know why she is defending him and could be something to do with how she viewed herself in the relationship. Counselling needed at the very least I think.

Great news. I've since googled max term for attemped murder and it is same as for murder - I.e.life imprisonment. most end up serving 16 years so I would imagine it would be a long sentence. One good thing for him to look forward to - plenty of sex in jail.

Taking all that together, the sentence range would be 27-35 years. If not, it would be level 2: 17-25 years. I think those ranges refer to determinate sentences rather than tariffs for life sentences. If it is a life sentence the tariff (minimum sentence) will be half the appropriate determinate sentence.

What is strange is that because she hasn't accepted he attempted to kill her then she does not seem to be emotionally affected. Perhaps it is a defence mechanism that she is not accepting it so she can continue taking care of her children. Perhaps she would rather have him in jail and still have him as her husband - noone else has him then. Just trying to make sense of her attitude.

The phyiscal harm done is beyond dispute but if - for instance - the victim statement claims there is little / no emotional harm , then would that affect the sentence ?
I suppose it will all come down to how much weight the victim statement will carry - versus the dangerousness report that the judge has ordered.

I actually mistyped that, it was physical or emotional harm, and I'm presuming she would have long term physical effects from injuries of that nature.

Today I met with the investigation team who brought together the complex attempt murder case for Emile Cilliers. Great opportunity to thank them all for their brilliant dedication and tenacity in securing the conviction. Sentencing on Friday at Winchester Crown.
