Not sure what point his counsel is making re the debt reduction. I know we are only getting minor snippets, but that line comes across as almost farcical. He isnt in as much debt so wont have any need to go round attempting to kill people for money ?

Pros: "Here was a planned course of conduct of exceptional gravity." He says its caused both serious harm and psychological harm to his victim (Vicky). Her survival 'Was little short of miraculous."

Pre-sentence report says Cilliers poses a 'high risk' to adults - particularly partners. And a 'medium' risk' to children. He is dangerous, says the prosecuting counsel.

Vicky Cilliers remains impassive throughout hearing. She has asked that her Victim Impact Statement is not read out.

Cilliers' barrister: "He became a credit-worthy example to the armed forces. It was a tragedy to him that he destroyed that."
