I'd like to know what happened to the white guy that was in the car with him as per early reports??

I have never really understood the
be vigilant" chant after these events.

Not really sure how to be vigilant regarding a speeding car or truck??

Apparently affluent background.

The Eiffel Tower turned off its lights Wednesday night to pay tribute to the victims of the London terror attack.

Oddly enough seeing as we were discussing Persians yesterday, the flat is either above or next to a Persian food takeaway. I wouldn't say he looked Iranian, though, and Iranians are generally Shi'ite, which is anathema to the ISIS lot. I would imagine the flat is rented separately.

Re the raided flat:

The area that the raided flat is in isnt too far from myself (or other WS'ers who i am sure will corroborate) and it isnt an affluent area at all. Its a rather diverse area with a lot of migration. Many homes and flats are split into small bed sits and there are a lot of rent by the week properties available through private landlord's.

Interestingly...and ill find a link...ive seen in a number of newspapers that a numver of neighbours to the flat have been interviewed who have stated that recently a man from London had moved in with the 3 other tennants, also male

The majority of "Persian" restaurants and takeaways are really just bog standard Pakistani/Bangladeshi ones with a couple of additional regional dishes, especially at the bottom end of the market. There are so many curry outlets these days, especially in a place like Birmingham, that some use gimmicks to differentiate themselves. We have a restaurant locally which bills itself as Nepalese but I'm damned if I can see any difference between it and the rest of the curry houses in the area.

And that stretch of the Hagley Road is pretty seedy. The restaurants and takeways along there are pretty crummy.

Hi my dear!

I have never understood all this they have not "claimed responsibility" yet. They do this everytime. Like folks who endorse this kind of thing are upstanding law abiding folks.

In the UK's case, it's probably a hang-over from the IRA/INLA days. The Republicans always phoned a newspaper very quickly with a known code-word to claim responsibility. There may be a lingering expectation that the Islamaloons would do the same.

Well we're in little old England now, where pretty much the only civilians with guns are farmers or gangsters. Gun crime is really not a big issue here, at least not for your average citizen, so our police don't all carry guns because as a rule they don't need to. I personally have never seen or held a gun and I don't know anyone who has one or could even get one.

Quite a few business people own shotguns because shooting is one of those skills which can be used to network for business purposes. Organised game bird shooting has a lot more cachet than golf and is much more expensive and therefore exclusive.

They're also common in the rural set generally since if you know a landowner you can often get informal shooting rights or get an invitation to go along on a local informal shoot. I know loads of people like that who own shotguns. I also know people who own "proper" firearms for lowland deer hunting.

Over the years I've handled shotguns a few times, and a .22 rifle on a number of occasions when I was in my teens.

For some reason, shooting taster sessions are now quite popular with hen and stag parties, maybe because it's likely to be a new activity and so an experience for most participants. One of my local shooting schools also does Groupon offers from time to time so I'd guess more people are getting to handle a shotgun now than in previous decades.

If you go along to a country or game fair, there's always a gun club offering the chance to try a shotgun and have a go at shooting a dozen clays.

Also, at county shows the army often has an area where you can handle and shoot an assault rifle under very strict supervision. Sometimes the rifles are genuine but re-bored to a smaller bore.
