Patients can have 'abnormal facial expressions'

Defence barrister Simon Russell Flint states: “We know that Stewart was admitted on March 18 last year back to Addenbrooke’s in respect of a cancer scare.” Defence barrister Simon Russell Flint asks Dr Pinto: “Overall having looked at records and history going back to 1996 what was your assessment of the severity of Myasthenia gravis suffered by Stewart?” Dr Pinto answers: “The records go from 1996 to 2005, he had severe symptoms requiring hospital treatment. “I have had some records from 2005 to 2016, including that Stewart had a two month admission to hospital requiring treatment. “Even after 2005 there’s evidence the patient had troublesome “Myasthenia gravis requiring ongoing treatment to bring about improvement in symptoms. “Patients of Myasthenia gravis can have abnormal facial expressions.”

Well, we guessed there would be a neurologist didn't we. I hope Trimmer is up to speed on this disease and knows about the medication regime and its effects. If he does he should be able to shoot the neurologist down because he would have to accept that on treatment drugs would have given him "artificial strength" for a period of time, certainly long enough to murder Helen.

“Records indicate that his symptoms included facial weakness and that continued to be troublesome despite the medication provided.”

He didn't need to use his face for the murder though.

And I don't doubt he would exaggerrate his symptoms at other times (than when he actually was really ill in hospital) and as for taking his word for whether or not he took his medication ...

We could do with them pointing out that according to records the college was closed for training day on April 11th

Net Ed - is your old BF covering it today? he could slip a note to the Pros team! ;)

The other concern is that there are fellow psychopaths/sociopaths on the jury that will "empathise" and admire Stewart's magnum opus and get a twisted thrill out of finding him innocent. There
is approximately, 1% psychopaths,1%
sociopaths
and 1% antisocials in society so it wouldn't take a huge statistical variation. Add in a deluded empath and he could strike lucky. Evidentially, he is toast but this is my only worry.

An now it's my worry too, thanks RB ;)

IS had abnormal facial expressions due to his MG post 2005, but is that the worst of it for the next 10 years?

Please, JudgeJudi, with respect, Alyce started the reports this morning, perhaps she can continue without repeats.

“Patients of Myasthenia gravis can have abnormal facial expressions.”

But did IS suffer much from this. His smile appears normal in the pics I've seen.

Oh, the bad pics went to the dump on 11 April.

I am guessing that the defence is concerned how he comes across to the jury, with his unappealing facial tics. I think this face evidence is purely so they don't judge him on his oddness.

I can't remember who, but someone did say this at the time of that evidence. And compared it to the time Helen lost the Christmas cards she had bought in advance and found them hidden behind books.

Had a feeling it was me, after someone rightly commented that there were a few odd 'hidey things' going on in the house. Can't find my comment though.

Only in his police interview it seems

Not surprised really, given the evidence we had from outset of trial

Well-treated patients can lead 'full life'

Dr Pinto is now being cross examined by the prosecution. Prosecutor Stuart Trimmer: “Myasthenia gravis tends to affect the facial region, the neck? Dr Pinto: “Yes that’s right” Trimmer: If someone needs to breath can this affect their airways? Dr Pinto: “Yes” Trimmer: “But general life tasks, ordinary things?” Dr Pinto: “If Myasthenia gravis is well treated patients can lead an active and full life.” Trimmer: “Is there any evidence Stewart was not well treated?” Dr Pinto: “No”

^^ Hahaha

So if we get a sociopath and a couple of gullible buggers on the jury he could walk. Scary thought.

Hopefully the majority verdict would deal with that. If it's 1% of the population (or 3% in total) more than 2 out of 12 jurors would be misfortunate indeed.

Thank you Dr Pinto, that's all we needed to know.

Stewart would not have been expected to refrain from activity

Trimmer: “So someone in his position correctly treated you wouldn’t expect them to refrain from gardening, or walking or?” Dr Pinto: “No” Trimmer: “But there is no suggestion that he was ever told ‘you can’t do this and you can’t do that’?” Dr Pinto: “That is correct” Trimmer: “He was able to conduct a full and healthy lifestyle?” Dr Pinto: “That is correct”
