[h=3]Stewart 'appeared normal' to nurse after supposedly killing Helen[/h]“When Stewart left his house at 2.45pm on April 11 after his sleep, Helen Bailey was alive, she waved him off from the window. “The nurse [at the doctor’s surgery] said Stewart appeared normal.

But he’d just apparently killed his wife, and their dog. “The important factor is there was no difference in his behaviour and appearance, at 2.54pm on April 11.

“His behaviour was no different, because he had no reason other than to believe that Helen Bailey was alive and well.”

Clearly he's running this up to lunch time, to leave no chance for Judge to sum up at all today and leave his wise words ( Flint's ) in their minds over the week end.

 • #243
Except WHY would they do that with police crawling around? It's this that makes the defence case so laughable.

Where was Jamie and Oliver living during the period that they are suggesting that Joe & Nick returned to the house to put Helen & Boris in the cesspit?

What a long morning of utter nonsense for the jury et al. to sit through today.

[h=3]Stewart 'punched and threatened'[/h]“Stewart left the surgery at 3.07pm, then he went to the tip. “He then went to the solicitors and went home by about 4.15pm at the latest.

“That’s when he noticed Helen wasn’t home.

She had gone, as had Boris, and following his return was the knock at the front door, and there was Nick who punched him, threatened him, told him Helen was with them but would be back on Friday.”

Hang on - I thought the nurse IS saw on April 11th said he did NOT appear normal - that he stared out the window, was preoccupied, didn't want to chat etc? Am I recalling one of his later visits to the nurse - I was sure he behaved oddly with a nurse on the day of the murder?

There must have been some very good reason. Did Sgt Polley's dog not have a great historical record of finds when it was much later analysed by the pros team so Pros decides to omit. Once Pros omits then the Defence don't go there?

But it was part of the Prosecution case, dog handler and dog warmly thanked by judge - is this really likely? I too feel more should have been made of the cadaver evidence.

No need to set alarm because Helen was at home

“He told Stewart to act normal. Fiction? Fantasy? Or might that be true?

“If it’s not true, what is exceptionally interesting is that, if as the prosecution allege, Stewart had killed Helen and dumped her in the cess pit, what was the state of the house after that?

“Jamie’s at work, Oliver’s at work, Helen’s dead. “When he leaves the house to go to the doctors, he leaves the house empty and unoccupied.

“What’s the state of the evidence relating to the setting of the alarm? “The officer told you that whenever the house was left unoccupied the alarm was activated.

“He didn’t set the alarm when he left for the doctor’s, because the house wasn’t unoccupied - Helen was home and waving him off from the window with Boris in her arms. “There was no need for him to set this alarm as he would do normally if the house is unoccupied.”

the Surgery Nurse's evidence
The next appointment with Stewart was on April 11, 2016. There was a scheduled appointment at 11.30am but this was cancelled and was rearranged for 3pm the same day, the court was told.
“I then saw Stewart at 2.58pm. He came in, was very matter of fact. He proceeded to get onto the examination couch and I changed the dressing. There was no mention made of the cancellation at the beginning of the appointment.
“He later apologised for having cancelled that morning and said he had car trouble.
“When I was changing his dressing, Ian was very distant. Normally when patients come in you can engage with them, general chit chat. There was nothing of that nature. “He appeared distant and gazing out of the window, there was minimal eye contact.”
He didn't appear to want to engage with me at all"
Lynn said she could remember Stewart wearing a blue shirt.
She said: “It was a very simple dressing and a very small wound, located on his belly button.
“I said we needed to review the wound in three days time. The next appointment with Ian was on April 25, and was again to redress the wound dressing.

Thanks to everyone who's stuck it out this morning, I've just caught up. It really is bizarre how Russell Flint seems to be turning into his client, not just representing him.

 • #254
Yes she did - nurse was actually v disparaging of him - seemed to dislike him I thought!

Jury asked how they would react if partner was threatened

“It’s all very well to think about what Stewart should have done or might have done as we sit here nine months later in the cold light of day.

“Would you know what to do if a threat had been made to your partner’s life, do you know how you would react?

“You can’t honestly and truly say ‘I would’ve called the police’ not knowing what safety measures would be put in place to protect your partner.

“Press reports with a newsflash of ‘famous author abducted from her own home’, might have put her in that very jeopardy you wanted to avoid at all costs.”

If Flint is last up then judge will sum
Up Monday so jury will have weekend to distance their minds from Flints twaddle. And Judge will be bringing all the main points together cutting through the erroneous. I hope!

Bravo Alyce. So as I suspected, Russell Flint is re-writing the evidence as he goes along - Unbelievable!

Stewart 'stuck' with lie, court told as hearing breaks for lunch

“Once Stewart had told the lie [of Helen going missing] he was stuck with it.

“Having told his sons on Tuesday, he was stuck with saying it to Helen’s friends, to her brother.

“The lie was getting out of control, but he had to maintain the pretence and hope she would return as Nick had told him she would be.” There will now be a lunch break until 2.05pm.

The nurse is obviously not a great fan of dull men wearing ill-fitting short-sleeved shirts.
