I've been following this case in other places since Jack went missing and I'm surprised at how few posts there are on here.

I recently saw a suggestion that Jack had fallen and hit his head at the party and around the same time read about an American man who was out with friends and also fell and hit his head, he was later found dead after falling again into an inaccesible space and there was a suggestion that the fall had played a part. I wonder if something similar has happened to Jack and they will find him once they have the cell data

I know the obvious answer when young men and nearby water are involved but the family are adamant that's not the case here, my mind is still open on that

No. That's not how it works in the UK. Jack is an adult, and as long as there is a possibility that he is alive he is entitled to his privacy. This is why even the police can have difficulties in getting access to people's phone records.

I've sympathy with the family but on balance I think I agree with you, unless there's evidence of foul play the phone user it entitled to privacy. There are all kinds of civil liberty issues around this IMO

I agree, but I wonder if there is a need for a blurred line to be created in these cases, a bit like Claudia’s law in that the parents can now organise her paperwork etc after so long. Whilst missing people have a right to protect their anonymity and if found are not forced into contact or returning home once an adult, there must be some middle ground with phone privacy laws- if a phone for example has been out of action for a week after a missing person report is filed then location data can be shared. This isn’t the same as sharing a phone that is still in uses location, or sharing access to personal messages etc. I think a decent law company would also be able to argue it’s not breaching data protection if no longer active and it’s historic location data- but that takes time and money.

There were over 400 vehicles passing through the area during that time that Jack was walking and we urge any cars, lorries, vans, taxis or buses that might have dashcam footage to come forward.

We also urge residents local to the area in which Jack was last seen to check household security cameras and doorbells for footage of Jack passing by.

Timeline of Jack's disappearance and phone activity:​

1. 01:00 AM: Jack messaged his parents with plans to get a taxi.
2. 03:17 AM: Last confirmed sighting of Jack on CCTV walking onto the grass area at the junction of Brunel Lock Way and Brunel Way.
3. 03:24 AM: Jack attempted to call a friend who was still at the party.
4. 03:25 AM: Likely sighting of Jack on the Plimsoll Bridge heading towards Bristol city centre.
5. 03:30 AM: Friend called back but the call was disconnected after Jack said "hello."
6. 03:39 AM: Jack seen walking along Bennett Way.
7. 03:40 AM: Jack seen on CCTV walking up Bennett Way slip road heading towards Hotwells.
8. 05:00 AM: Jack's parents noticed he wasn't home
9. 05:40 AM: Jack's phone placed him at an address in the Granby Hill area.

Jack's phone has not been found, however its location showed that it was located at an address on Granby Hill and it remained live on the network until 6:44am.

Only visited once by the police, no further visits or search was made following the first visit

Frustratingly the police failed/forgot to report Jack to the Missing Persons register
initially but he has now appeared on their Facebook group etc.

During the public searches derelict areas that were accessible were checked. It is not clear if or where the police searched

WERE SNIFFER DOGS INVOLVED?
Dogs were use on the water, we are unsure if there were used on the land and we

Following a meeting with the family and a missing persons advisor it was agreed that some of the donations above the reward amount will now be used to employ a specialist firm to advance the search for Jack

Circumstances surrounding Jack's disappearance:​

It is now over 100 days since 23-year-old Jack O'Sullivan went missing on March 2nd 2024, following a night out in Hotwells, Bristol.

Jack, having attempted to get a taxi home, was last seen on CCTV on the morning of March 2nd at approx. 3:40 am walking up the Bennett Way slip road heading back towards Hotwells.

Jack's phone was still active and placed him at an address at 5:40 am in the Granby Hill area.

His phone continued to be live on the network until 6:44 am.

Nothing has been seen or heard of Jack since the early hours of that morning.

Despite the authorities efforts, the investigation has hit a standstill, leaving his family desperate for answers.

Following our renewed appeal above, we have received a few questions from the public. Please see some question and answers below which we hope provide some clarity:


Why are you not sharing Jack’s phone data with his family?

Officers have conducted an in-depth analysis of Jack’s phone use and data movements after his last confirmed sighting, this has included receiving information from Jack’s phone provider. Unfortunately, this information has not taken us any further in our bid to locate Jack.

In August, we received a request from the Jack’s family requesting a copy of the data. Unfortunately, due to the strict handling and retention requirements laid out in Home Office Communications Data Code of Practice, which applies to data obtained under section 60A of the Investigatory Powers Act 2016, as well as GDPR and Data Protection, we have been unable to fulfil this request as the law does not allow us to share it.

By disclosing this data to a third party, officers would be unable to comply with the requirements set out in law, including having no control over how it is stored, if it is shared beyond the agreed parameters and if it is retained beyond the legally permitted time period. The information also holds private data belonging to other members of the public.

ACC Joanne Hall said: “We have taken time to carefully consider the data request to see if there was any way we could agree to it in order for Jack’s family to get the answers they deserve following his disappearance. However, on this occasion, we are restricted by law and have been unable to identify a clear legal basis which would allow for the disclosure to take place.”



Have you made contact with Apple regarding the AirTag?

Yes, we have carried out enquiries regarding the AirTag. Sadly, there is no data for this due to there being no connection to a named personal account, so it also takes us no further in our search for Jack.



Can you confirm the last time Jack was seen on any available footage?

The last confirmed sighting of Jack, where we can say with certainty that it is Jack, was at 3.13am when he was walking through a car park onto a green area below Plimsol Swing Bridge, by the Cumberland Basin.

Following a further review, two later sightings of someone who we believe to be Jack were located. This footage is grainy and taken from a distance, so we cannot say with absolute certainty that it is Jack, however due to the timing, the location and the family’s views, we feel that it is likely to be him. The last of these sightings is at 3.38am on Bennett Way.



You mention extra searches taking place this week, where are they taking place and why only now?

As part of our investigation, we’ve consulted with national independent experts to look at the enquiries we’ve already carried out and make recommendations on what else we can do to find Jack. One of these reviews has been from a tidal expert, who recommended additional areas we could search further up the river Avon, primarily areas of the riverbank which are harder to reach. We are due to complete these searches over the coming week and we are constantly checking and reconsidering all aspects of the investigation as we progress our enquiries.



Why aren’t you communicating with the family?

We continue to work with Jack’s family to find the best and most appropriate way to communicate with them. There is a dedicated officer who stays in regular contact with them and we continue to discuss different ways and solutions to communicate moving forward. Our Assistant Chief Constable, Joanne Hall, has also had the opportunity to meet with Jack’s family recently.

With investigations of this nature, there tends to be periods which are more dynamic and fast-paced and others which are longer-running.

Where the investigation has progressed and activity becomes more prolonged, or there are fewer updates to give, the communication flow will not be to the same extent. However, whenever there are any significant updates, we will always make direct contact with them.
