It's wonderful to see that the Daily Mail is standing on the ground of righteousness.

Check the sidebar titled "WHY POLICE HAVE REFUSED TO REVEAL NAME OF LATEST SUSPECT"

....However, while more traditional media outlets have obeyed the letter of the law on this latest arrest, within hours of the arrest the internet was awash with rumours of a suspect's identity, including micro-blogging site Twitter.

Mr Jefferies is now said to be considering suing police for wrongful arrest after his reputation was arguably damaged by press coverage.

Maybe I am in the minority here but I have never thought it was Joannas bf, nor did I ever think it was the landlord. The bf crossed my mind at first but the police have never given any indication that they suspect him, of course that means nothing but I do not believe it's him.

Why do some of you believe it could be him?

Makes two of us then - i just don't think it was him as the partner is the first suspect in cases like this, and the police will have looked at him thoroughly. His alibi must be solid.

I agree, he would've been looked at thoroughly. His phone pings would indicate where he was when he texted Joanna and that's just for starters. And he must have a water tight alibi! The family certainly don't seem to think it's him either. Even if it was a waiting game, waiting for him to slip up or whatever, the police wouldn't have arrested 2 suspects. I am confident it's not the boyfriend.

...but in the context of what's discussed on this forum then it does have relevance. If we only discussed what we know was told to the LE then we'd all be silent as we know naff all. jmo

If you you read the thread my post was regarding cj the ll not been eligible to file a claim for wrongful arrest,i just pointed out the reasons he may have been arrested, this included a popular theory that he may have told the press something different than he had told the police, whatever he told the press does not matter be it he seen 3 people or 4 people or 10 people or some aliens it does not matter what he said to the press it matters what he said to the police when asked.

I'm confused as to why some of you think 'the weeping girl' was TM; furthermore why is it assumed that TM blew the whistle on her boyfriend? She was questioned by detectives, that's all I've gleaned so far. Have I missed something?

There are some reports in tomorrows newspapers hinting it was her who tipped off the police. Also, some reports saying they broke up before Christmas. Very confusing and no one is 100% sure what to believe at this stage. I think almost everything at this stage is speculation.

It must be.
But if VT is released, which may prompt a review, you and I will have to have a wee chat over a cup of tea, and scones with cream and strawberries. ;)

The rag newspapers? TM's father has already commented that his daughter and NUA are very much together and that reports to the contrary were "absurd."

Well well, after getting caught up on the days activity, just a few thoughts.

Still no charges and we are about 45 hours now (I believe arrest was 6am). And they would have planned the time of arrest in order to maximize interviewing time. I suspect NUA would have finished the second long and grueling day of answering the same questions over and over.

Witnesses, confessions, and forensic evidence. I recall a retired detective early on in this case saying no one is ever convicted without 2 of the 3. At this point regardless of who did it you got to say things are not looking good. No witnesses of any sort. Will a confession come? Doesn't seem likely. And they certainly do not seem to have much forensic evidence, but even if they do is it enough that it will hold up without the other two? It would have to be some very solid evidence, like a ring at the flat on Aberdeen or something of the like.

If NUA did do it, it is hard to believe it took 5 weeks to get where we are. It always struck me as very unlikely something could have occurred in JY's flat without an immediate neighbor hearing something. One would think the flat next would have been subject to the same scrutiny the one above was in the same time frame. Also, LE said in the days after JY was found that they were exclusively focused on the UK and that they had no concerns the perp had gone abroad. Looking back that almost seems designed as a message that NUA was not a suspect at the time, and designed to keep the focus off him. Why were they so sure then that NUA wasn't involved? What has changed?

Where was NUA's GF in the time frame 12/17-20? If she was not at Canyge and LE knew that from day 1, hard to believe NUA wouldn't go right up the list as possible suspects along with the other 3-4.

Where was NUA from 12/20-25? It's said he was in Holland but that doesn't appear to have been corroborated.

Personally i am not for critising Avon & Somerset LE at the moment, they still have my full backing to catch & convict the killer. Actually it is only 28 days since Jo's body was discovered in Longwood Lane which is 4 weeks exactly to the day today.

Not really meant as a criticism of LE, more just a statement of surprise that the spotlight would take until now to get where it is, given it's proximity. The NUA literally could not have been any closer.

Published: Today

"JO Yeates murder hunt cops arrested her Dutch neighbour after a tip-off from a sobbing girl, The Sun can reveal.

She rang after this week's emotional Crimewatch appeal for information by Jo's parents.

News of the dramatic anonymous telephone call emerged as detectives were granted more time yesterday to quiz Vincent Tabak, 32."

On the weeping female caller: I read somewhere that a friend(& her sister?) of NUA's gave him the use of her flat while all the police/press/forensics had made canynge road uninhabitable.. perhaps this person may be the weeping caller & not his GF.

It would seem crazy if the police werent onto this guy(NUA) from the outset; lives right beside Jo, entrance is in the secluded back garden, he's easily big enough to handle the body, left the country soon after her dissappearance, his gf(who's similar in ways to jo) was away, he came in contact with her in work situations...

In fairness most people were saying that if it wasnt the BF then it would probably be a young man she half knew.. I think the reason alot of us kept on about GR/BF for so long is that the police didnt rule him out properly.. sure, they said he's absolutely not a suspect etc, but people really wanted details of phone pings, multiple alibi's from sheffield or cctv etc.. by failing to reassure on this they allowed the public to retain an element of suspicion because it usually is a close male relative/partner.. unfortunately. Did the police want things to remain 'fuzzy' in this way? perhaps to smoke out their real suspect somehow?

Reports state they gathered three partial DNA samples from her body.

To whom do these belong?

Because guess what? Whoever these samples belong to is going to have to answer some very curly questions.
And they are going to have to be very convincing answers.

For Trio:

How can it be that three DNA samples tken from different places on Joanna all be partial?

( many thanks for your highly detailed post re DNA)

I joined WS ages ago to read about the McCann case. But I only lurked. I had not realised that I had not completed my registration until I tried to log in to post on this case!

What do we know of the movements of VT and TM since December 17?

Let me speculate.

I think the police have arrested VT due to the perceived discrepancies in his whereabouts.

?Dec 20 VT and TM were questioned early on and cleared. Was this on Dec 20?

?Dec 20 VT must have told neighbours that he was going to Holland to see his family for Christmas but he apparently did not go due to the weather conditions but did not return to his flat. He could have asked EM for the keys to her flat so he could stay there to avoid media glare.

Jan early - EM leaves for Chile for four weeks.

Jan early - VT moved into EM's flat.

Jan 5 VT returned to work.

CJ could have told police about VT when he was arrested and lied in some way to get them off his back.

Police are keen to get entry to his flat especially as LL has keys to it to check forensic evidence there and to question him about his whereabouts and whether he heard anything that weekend.

LE have VT under surveillance as they wonder why he is living at another address

DY and TY make appeal on TV

EM hears about it via her father who had not been told that VT was living in her flat with her permission so he contacts daughter and tells her to phone the police.

EM phones police and sobs over the phone thinking that perhaps VT is guilty.

Jan 20? VT is found to be de-iceing his car at 2am so police decide to arrest him at 6am as it might have appeared to them that he is going to do a run.

IMO VT being a quiet person has unwittingly made others suspicious of him.

As the previous tenants claimed that you could hear everything from the flat next door, I think the police will be keen to find out what VT knows about all the neighbours at 42 and 44 which could give them even more clues.

However, IMO VT seems to be a person who does not think he needs to tell everyone where he is. I am sure his albi must have been checked out by now and he will be released after the DNA check.

From the Sun
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3365913/Weeping-girl-tipped-off-Jo-police.html

'A neighbour who lives behind Jo's flat reportedly told police he heard a woman scream "Help me" the night she went missing.

His claim ties in with reports of hearing cries from another neighbour'

He is unsure of exactly when the incident happened but has become increasingly concerned that it was on December 18 – the morning after Miss Yeates was last seen.

"I didn't hear the first word but the next two words were definitely 'help me'.

I think it is important to note he does not remember which day. And heard "help me" but not the first word ... :o

Witnesses, confessions, and forensic evidence. I recall a retired detective early on in this case saying no one is ever convicted without 2 of the 3.

The retired detective is wrong. Steve Wright was convicted of five murders purely on forensics; no witnesses, no confessions. No clear cause of death in some of the victims, no primary crime scene ever identified, and he no commented his way through three days of questioning. All the police had was forensics that put him and all five of the victims together. He was convicted.

Neighbours on Canynge Road yesterday claimed NUA had returned to his flat on the Friday Miss Yeates disappeared. It is understood he spoke to ex-teacher Chris Jefferies, who had helped her boyfriend Greg Reardon start his car before a trip to Sheffield for the weekend.
A neighbour said: ‘When [NUA] got home on his bike, Chris spoke to him on the drive and told him about what happened with the car.’

Seems gossip and innuendos are starting to appear as news once again.
