Found Deceased UK - Joshua Jones, 29, seen hitchhiking, Matlock, 12 Dec 2020

How awful. I do hope he's okay, but the last text before turning his phone off sounds ominous. You don't need to walk for long in Matlock before you're in the wilderness.

I feel so much for all of them. So terribly sad.

Does anyone know if a map has been produced showing last sighting/direction headed, and/or any areas that have been physically searched on the ground? A lot of the appeals I’ve seen have been more focused on potential (unconfirmed) sightings in different places so I don’t want to appear insensitive to the family by asking about ground searches in the vicinity, but I’m local and I do want to help if I can - I know up towards Snitterton there are lots of wooded areas and then fields, and now that lockdown restrictions have eased a bit I’d be happy to do some more walking in that area to look for any sign of Josh. Can’t imagine what the family are going through so this isn’t meant to step on anyone’s toes, just seems logical to search close by and I don’t want to repeat what others have done if I can be more help elsewhere.

Dad of missing Derbyshire man Joshua Jones 'still has hope he's OK'
The anguish continues for the loved ones of missing man Joshua Jones.

On Tuesday, his father Andrew, of Darley Dale, said: “We’ve not heard anything about Joshua’s whereabouts.

“The police recently told us they’re extending the search to places like Chesterfield and Nottingham.

“He’s been gone for nearly four months now – but I still have hope he is OK.

“You’ve got to have hope.”

What was the last text before turning his phone off? I follow the Find Josh group but had not known about the text?

Really interesting... particularly the police and family’s knowledge of what items he purchased but not making this public.
I believe what he purchased in sainsburys and the shop he went into beforehand is what raised his profile to vulnerable missing as opposed to a regular missing adult case.

I’m a member but I’ve never seen any details of where has physically been searched on the ground. A few years ago I was a member of a group for another missing local man but in that case the family strongly suspected he had taken his own life because of a purchase he had made (the purchases made by Joshua Jones have not been made public but he was last seen visiting a local hardware shop and a supermarket) and so they were organising a search and there were volunteers doing their own searches and uploading maps, etc. to show where had been covered in local woodland, fields, etc., fanning out from where he was last seen and his last known direction of travel. I’m not seeing similar in this case and am really conscious of trying not to upset anyone by suggesting the outcome here may be similar but if there is information of which areas have been searched (not just with drones) I’d be really grateful to know so that I can get involved.

Did u check out the latest comments? Cud there be a family divide in this disappearance?

Have now! Weren't there when I posted.

Always two sides to a story, but even if the case he wanted to start a new life elsewhere, he should inform police otherwise a waste of time for them and all those involved in searching and putting posters out.

Maybe he was at a crossroads in his life, but who's to say his state of mind at the time didn't push him over the edge? I can't see him not contacting his parents even though if that were the case? And his child?

Until he either is found or comes forward, he is still officially missing if no one has seen or heard of him.

I find it a very odd disapearance. The hitch hiker story on the day of disappearance, we dont know what Josh bought in Sainsburys and there was the deleted messages of someone convinced he was in an area near Nottingham the days after disappearance. Its interesting that Joshs blood family have been against the find Josh fb group and knew he had some problems with his wife. Can i ask u a question Ms Minisleuth? So Josh could be living somewhere else with a new woman. Say this was the case and Josh then went to the police to say im ok but want my location protected. I know the police have to do this, but what about Josh’s legal position of financially supporting his child? Im just wondering if the police could pursue this and one of the reasons for Joshs sake its best to lay low.

I see his wife has responded this morning.

I don't know what the legal ramifications would be apropos child support, but I think it unlikely anyway that he just went off to start a new life.

I mean he can't maintain the status of a missing person if he were found. He'd be commiting a crime potentially if attempting to go under a fake alias e.g. document fraud. He'd be obliged to be registered for Council Tax if he was living somewhere - Information the CSA could use to track him.
