“Them” could imply a husband & wife, a mother & son, parents & son etc etc I’d refer to all of my neighbours as “them” even though each have different set ups

I agree. I also think some people would say 'them' if they didn't know if it was a 'him', 'her' or more than one person.

So if you were to say 'he keeps himself to himself' that carries the implication a single male lives there. But you don't know if it might be three women who live there, so some people would instead switch to the colloquial of they/them.

I suppose it could be, I was just offering up some thoughts on the oddness of using a definite plural when the man doesn't seem to know how many people definitely live there.

IMO, the colloquial use of keeping 'themselves to themselves'/I've never met them, could just as easily refer to an unknown occupant(s) as opposed to saying that there are definitely multiple people living there. I think a lot of people would say "I've never met them" when asked if they'd met a new neighbour, without implying there is more than one person in the house. It 'can' just mean that you don't know how many or the gender(s). It might not be proper use, but it is often used colloquially.

I also think it's a house that I'd expect more than one person to live in (on average) so there could well be more than one person there.

I completely agree with this - especially if the man interviewed has never seen the person and therefore doesn't even know if they're male or female. I often use the plural if talking about an individual I don't know - even if I'm only referring to one person.

Yep - I took a package in for someone in my building this morning - I know the person lives alone and I know their sex and yet said to the postman "yes I can take it for them". Its just a turn of phrase/colloquial way of speaking.

Its getting pretty close to the end of the extension LE were allocated for questioning - am I right in thinking they can apply for another 24 hours (adding up to 96 hours in total)?

Yes, that's right - they can ask for a final 24 from about 9pm tonight

Yes. They can add another 24 hours which I can see happening in this case.

Current extension ends at 9.30pm.. they can apply for a further 12 hrs, that's tops.

I hope that link works I couldn’t find any other way to link it.. it’s from Kent 999s page if it doesn’t work. There’s A LOT of officers, I don’t believe they’re getting the answers they need from the suspect in custody and they’ll be well aware time is running out

Also in the first few pictures do the houses behind the search area look similar to the property being searched* the new build red brick stands out to me

Not sure if this has been posted before in the thread, apologies if it has been...

'The suspect was described as being around 5ft 10in, of mixed race, slim and aged between 25 and 30.'

Man tries to snatch teen's dog in broad daylight
I saw that report and thought that the dog snatching aspect was overstated, and that the dog was merely a means to gaining control of the teenage girl. If photoman is the one in custody and is charged, the link between the two incidents might be worth looking at.

I'm thinking it probably isn't a "no comment" interview...

They've also stated they're searching new areas. Not sure where these sit in relation to where they've already looked.

They really are trying very hard to look for something. I am thinking it is the murder weapon . I do hope that the police have other evidence from forensic tests and the culprit left DNA at the scene.

Problem is the backlog/time-the best bet other than actual physical evidence at the scene or on the suspect is their seized electronic devices, journals etc to see what searches they have doing, diary entries, plans of murder etc.

Anthony Opie, 26, lives opposite the house and says the occupants "keep themselves to themselves".

"I've literally never seen anyone go in or out of that house" he told KentOnline.

"We've lived her about two years. Our kitchen faces out the front but we only spend a certain amount of time in there and tend to keep the blinds closed, but we've just never seen them."

Forensics teams carry bags from taped-off house
I am thinking more along the lines that the photo person who police wanted to talk with may have been living at the house either legally or illegally but may not be the suspect.
