UK - Kamil Milczarczyk, 24, stabbed to death in city centre, Hull, 24 March 2023 *13 people charged with murder*

Sad to think at least one of the defendents lives could potentially have been very different-
Opie-Palmer pleaded guilty to violent disorder. It isn’t clear if those who admitted to violent disorder and aren’t on trial for manslaughter have been sentenced and how long for

Incident in toilets 'could have been catalyst for violence that led to death'

The death of Kamil Milczarczyk could have followed after an "innocuous coming together" of several young men in a bar led to later violence. The "chain of events" that led to "trouble" involved 13 males in one rival group and others in another, a trial has heard.

(…)

"The fact that none of those charged with manslaughter were responsible for the fatal injuries does not matter for the purposes of this offence," said Mr Wood.

"It is the fact that they were encouraging or assisting Thompson to use violence by their own acts which implicates these defendants and makes them criminally responsible too for the death of Kamil Milczarczyk." Mr Wood said that the 13 males were thought to have been staying at a "holiday let" flat in Grimston Street, Hull, at the time.

Man suffered 'catastrophic' wound in city centre stabbing
Stephen Wood KC, prosecuting, said that Home Office pathologist Dr Kirsten Hope carried out a post-mortem on Mr Milczarczyk and found that a stab wound to his chest had hit his sixth and seventh ribs before passing through his heart.

The entire depth of the stab wound was 9cm," said Mr Wood. "Kamil Milczarczyk died from what Dr Hope describes as a catastrophic blood loss after he sustained the stab wound to his chest."

He would have bled almost immediately but he would have been capable of some movement before collapsing. The injury would have required "at least moderate force" to inflict the wound.

The jury was brought back into court on Friday morning and Judge John Thackray KC said that he was discharging it from giving verdicts in the case.
(…)
Judge Thackray said: "I'm afraid I can't tell you why. There are cogent reasons. I am sorry that this has happened. It does, on occasions, occur and I have, in my judgement, no alternative but to discharge you from giving your verdicts."

Wow!

The same thing happened with the trial of a mad teacher who stabbed her lover/husband (?) in bed and then buried him in her backyard

And no news about the retrial AFAIK

Justice for Kamil !!!!

A man who stabbed another man to death in a "senseless" attack has been convicted of murder. Kamil Milczarczyk, 24, was on a night out in Hull city centre on 24 March 2023 when Brandon Thompson, 23, stabbed him in the chest following a large altercation on Princes Dock Street, Humberside Police said.
Thompson, of Clanthorpe, Hull, denied murder and possession of an offensive weapon but was found guilty by a jury who reached an unanimous verdict on Thursday. He previously admitted violent disorder and is due to be sentenced next month.

Six other men, who had all denied the lesser offence of manslaughter, were all cleared by the jury. (…) Sentence on Thompson for murder and also on the other five men, who face sentence on other lesser charges involving violence, was adjourned. Those who had been facing manslaughter charges but who were cleared by the jury were all allowed bail. (…)
An incident in the toilets of the bar might have been the "catalyst" for what happened later. The "chain of events" led to "trouble" involving young males in one rival group and several others in another. A "core group" of troublemakers could have put out a "call to arms" after they realised that they "needed reinforcements" to join them to boost their numbers. It was claimed that telephone calls were made to others to recruit them for violent scenes that followed. (…) The defendants seemed to have been part of a Snapchat group chat. The police had been able to undercover their chats.(…)
"We do not say that anyone else shared Thompson's intention to kill Kamil Milczarczyk or to cause him really serious harm," said Mr Wood. There was a "core group" who engaged in unlawful violence in and around the area where Mr Milczarczyk was stabbed by Thompson. Other members of the group were "punching and kicking". Mr Wood said that the 13 males were thought to have been staying at a "holiday let" flat in Grimston Street, Hull, at the time."Thompson had a knife in his left hand," said Mr Wood. "It's a knife that was ready to be used. It was a knife that he had taken from the flat on Grimston Street."
