#MISSING

⚠️Our officers searching for a missing #Gateshead man are appealing to the public for help.

Kyle Bird, 33, was last seen on Friday, April 22 in Rowlands Gill near Maguires Chip shop. Enquiries have now shown that he may have been in the vicinity of the River Derwent near Blaydon Rugby Club.

However, Kyle’s family haven’t heard from him since and this is highly out of character for him.

Officers are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare and enquiries have been ongoing to trace Kyle since he was first reported as missing.

Police are now asking the public for their assistance and asking for anyone who might have seen a man matching Kyle’s description to get in touch.

Kyle is described as a white male, around 6ft 1in, with short brown hair and neck tattoos which say “Nanna, Mam and Kyle.” He has a small scar on his left cheek underneath his eye which reaches the top of his ear and was last seen via CCTV (pictured) wearing a grey tracksuit, black North Face jacket and black trainers.

Kyle often visits the Blaydon shopping precinct, Chopwell and Rowlands Gill and frequently travels between these areas by bus.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts, is asked to contact us via the 'Tell Us Something' page of their website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20220425-0045.

Kyle's family and friends have been appealing for help in finding him for the best part of two weeks. I don't know why the police took so long in making an appeal, but I suppose they must have had their reasons.

Chantell Smith has issued a desperate plea for her partner Kyle Bird to come home

The devastated partner of a missing Gateshead dad has made a heartfelt appeal for him to come home.

Chantell Smith has not seen her partner Kyle Bird since Friday, April 22, and has pleaded for him to get in touch. She said she received a text from him on Saturday April 23, just after 3pm but neither Chantell or his family have heard anything from him since.

Kyle, who turned 34 on May 7, was last seen in Rowlands Gill near Maguires Chip shop.

Now missing for 17 days, Chantell said this is highly out of character for Kyle, from Chopwell, who usually comes home to her and their six-year-old daughter Annalise. However, Chantell said just two weeks prior to Kyle going missing, he lost his factory job which she said impacted him greatly.

Chantell, 23, said: "Kyle worked full-time but two weeks prior to him going missing, he lost his job and went off the rails a bit.

"It's not the first time this has happened, but he's never been missing this long before without getting in touch with someone. We've got a six-year-old daughter who is just worrying so much.

"Kyle, please just come home and get in touch with someone and let us know you're safe. Even if you don't want to come back home just let someone know you're alright.

"If I could, I would just tell him to get in touch with someone. His daughter is worrying and his girlfriend is going out of her mind, we all are."

Kyle's absence has particularly taken its toll on his daughter who "wished for her daddy to come home". Chantell said: "My daughter is wondering what's going on and keeps asking where her dad is. She picked up a flower that kids make wishes on and said she made a wish but said she couldn't tell me what it was..."

#MISSING We're asking for your help once again as we continue to search for Gateshead man Kyle Bird.

The 33-year-old was first reported as missing on April 22 after he failed to return home or make contact with his family.

An investigation was launched and enquiries to trace him have been ongoing with a full review of CCTV.

As part of that review, we can now confirm that Kyle was last seen getting off the number 47 bus at the Metro Centre interchange on April 23 at 2.08pm. But there have been no further confirmed sightings since this time.

This is highly out of character for Kyle and we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

We have issued a new image of Kyle (below) in the hopes of encouraging anyone who may have seen him or who has information about his whereabout to get in touch.

He is described as a white male, around 6ft 1in, with short brown hair and neck tattoos which say “Nanna, Mam and Kyle.” He has a small scar on his left cheek underneath his eye which reaches the top of his ear and was last seen via CCTV on the bus (pictured) wearing a grey tracksuit, black The North Face jacket and black trainers.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts, is asked to contact us via the 'Tell Us Something' page of their website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20220425-0045.

We have sadly found a body in our search for #Gateshead man Kyle Bird.

Kyle, 33, was last seen getting off a bus at the Metro Centre interchange on April 23, and had been reported as missing after failing to make contact with his loved ones.

An extensive search was launched and a number of enquiries were carried out to locate Kyle, but sadly a body was found last night, just off Shibdon Bank in Blaydon.

Formal identification has yet to take place but officers believe it to be Kyle. His family are being supported by specialist officers at this distressing time.

We do not believe there to be any third party involvement in his death and a report will now be made for the coroner.

This is a very sad update which we hoped we would not have to give and our thoughts are with Kyle’s friends and family during this difficult time.

We want to thank everyone who shared our appeal, as well as all our officers, partners and everyone else who assisted with our search. It is hugely appreciated.
