Yes Im aware of that. I was trying to propose other uses of 'The Avenue' other than in relation to Newland.

I first lived on the Avenues 30+yrs ago when nice but dull, bearded, Liberal academics lived there, before hipster culture saved the area from bedsit Hell.

I had to get out when Ray's Place lost its alcohol licence for the 15th time.

Not been back at all since the area sadly lost The Boar's Nest .

Now safely ensconced in the W Hull villages.

eta. I lied. I won the quiz a few weeks ago at The People's Republic. Forgot. ;)

Touché! I was expanding on your point, not challenging it. (Readers can click the little arrow on your quote and see that Quintet specifically asked about use of "The Avenue").

West Hull villages? How awful. Must cost you a fortune getting a cab home from the work Christmas party.

No that's what I was trying to say! I mean he may have generally planned what he'd do to someone, not that he was targeting Libby or someone in her exact situation that night.

More than likely an opportunist scenario.

Personally, if foul play happened, I doubt anything was planned.

Lol. The office Xmas party is always in my head.

All Your points have been useful. No adversarial tone intended

I think we can all say whatever we like on here because we all have our own opinions x

Websleuths TOS as on the 1st page of this thread.
While we believe very much in the freedom of speech & expression, you DO NOT have an absolute right to say whatever you want in this community.

Really not satisfied with the polices work during this investigation. I feel like the public need to be told more. We need an announcement from the law enforcement or even an appearance made by Libby’s parents. We’re all being kept in the dark.

The Public do not need to be told anything during an investigation and won't be, they only need to be asked for help by the police. The only people that neef to be told anything relevant is the family.

I understand what you are trying to say...and this may be all that WE need to know. But in investigating these types of situations, LE does need to know these things about a potential victim. Also, if this is truly a forum for theorizing about why someone is missing, how, etc., then I think it is acceptable to respectfully speculate about details that might have contributed to the situation. I do not think that we should in any way implicate her, blame her, criticize, etc., but a person's demeanor can potentially offer valuable leads.

I'm sure LE know what they need to and that's the correct people to know.
Public get too involved and feel entitled to know things they don't need to know.

Nobody sat at home in armchair will solve this unless on the investigation or a key witness.

I agree, she could be found before the 11th March and then the whole case would change again.

I agree with this to an extent. The extent is whether I need to be concerned if a predator is on the loose. Should I be concerned? Can they give the local community, notably females and people who care about them, any reassurances?

We have no idea if this was an accident, if they genuinely believe they have the right suspect, or if they think a perpetrator may still be out there. If it's the latter, IMHO, they have a duty to tell us.

I live two streets away from Libby’s parents and I just expected more from them in terms of the media and press conferences. They’ve attended one vigil here in Wycombe but gone quiet ever since.

They owe us absolutely nothing.

Neither do the police.

Erm I’ll havw to disagree with you there.. I think the police owe us a very in depth explanation, especially to the people who live in hull and may be within walking distance of a sexual predator!!

blimey. Just goes to show anything is possible

Yep what he did was horrific the whole village was in a state of panic until he was arrested.

What he did was calculated and pre meditated so just goes to show what some people are capable of.

The suspect recently charged is still under investigation in to the LS disappearance and currently is in custody.....what more do you need to know?
The Police are now conducting behind the scenes investigations they have informed the public.

Currently, the person in question is not free. If he is indeed deemed dangerous, then he will not be released. If he is released, you will have knowledge of this and LE will likely follow up either way with the appropriate warnings, etc. Further, do sex offenders in the UK need to register once released? If so, then the information will certainly be available and you can be as informed as you would like to be.

Without trying to be rude you obviously aren’t from the U.K. so don’t really understand what I’m trying to say. Police owe us as a general public some answers. It’s about time they pull their fingers out and stop trimming hedges and doing gardening in the playing fields and actually start searching for Libby.. for example the river!!

Personally, I think they have already got the predator in custody, but you're right, with no charges brought in relation to Libby there could still be someone out there.

I wonder if University students have been told to keep an eye out for dangers. I remember when I was a student at Leeds there was a string of incidents in Headingley (the main student area), and the Uni issued rape alarms to every student who wanted one along with self defence workshops and free late buses. Anything like that happening in Hull?

There is a difference between absolutely needing to know or having to know and theres being nosey and feeling entitled to know more.
We would ALL love to know what the Police know but that's not how it works.

I am a local citizen I am not disturbed by this and do not feel the need for an explanation if it would jeopardise the case. It's common sense to say we all walk and live nearby sexual predators but don't know it. They're everywhere.

Newsflash...going on crimes of a sexual nature the chances are you are in walking distance of a sexual predator no matter where you live.

Do you not think that if the police thought for one minute there was a risk to the public they would have said so?

Have some faith in them, the fact they are not asking for help and doing constant appeals says to me they know they have the right guy they just need more to make charges stick.

As for Libbys parents their world has been turned upside down their daughter is most likely dead and you think they should do a press conference?

I think they should do whatever they feel they need to do to get through the day personally.

The Police in the early days had more officers visible to reassure the Public and if they have scaled those back
they feel there isn't a need for it based on their intelligence.
