The only thing I have read is that it was a Huawei
I’ve actually never clapped eyes on a Huawei handset in a digital forensics lab and don’t think I would know what one looks like in “real life”. I usually handle iphones, Samsungs, nokias, BB, and bum phones.

I know they can get information on calls from the provider but are they able to retrieve messages without the phone?

As far as I am aware, they can obtain the following from the network provider very easily -
Number called, time of call and duration. We all know they can access voicemail.
Regarding messages the the network provider will have details of number sent and received, time and message size. Regarding text message contents it depends on a few factors such as the network provider (i know historically Virgin Mobile kept copies, so others may do the same), whether the phone has ever been backed up or connected to say a Gmail account. I would not be surprised if armed with a court order, IMEI, some nifty software and a few civilian graduate uber geeks (which most of the techie ones are in the labs) it is possible. I will ask the question next time I’m onsite at a lab.

Also, I may be wrong on this, but there is always a buzz of excitement in the labs if the phones are on contract rather than PAYG.

I know with Whatsapp messages they deactivate the lost sim, obtain a new sim card with the same number and do a bit of jiggery pokery and whatsapp is reinstated with all messages, photos and call logs intact.

I wonder if LB was intending to vist the cemetary, hence the phone was powered off. Has the cemetary itself as the murder scene been ruled out?

I don’t think we can rule anything out in this senseless act.

Personally I don’t think so. I think she was murdered somewhere behind the pub area and moved to the cemetery in the wheelie bin. The statement at the end of the report on the cctv footage of the lad with the bin, stating that they were conscious there could be a good reason for this footage, speaks volumes to me.

The police were concentrating and ascended on that area after he was arrested.

She lived directly opposite the cemetery so would have just crossed the road imo. There are 4 gates into the cemetery. 1 on whitewell, 2 main gates on Burnley Road and a further one on Bolton Ave. They have cctv of him entering whitewell, and we know from the last footage of Lindsay it covers one of the main gates, so she would have been picked up if she had either crossed the road further down, to enter whitewell or come back up to the main gates

Oh my gosh they are mini phones!!!! Crumbs, that makes the image I had a lot more bearable.

OT but just out of curiosity Peak, roughly how often do you get called on to clean a phone? And how far do you travel?
It depends, its certainly not a business on its own. I could get 2 call outs at one lab in a week and clean a couple of phones on each visit or I could go 4-6 weeks without a peep, then get an emergency call out with no notice just for one handset. Its not always phones sometimes it could be a camera, laptop or a hard drive.

Regards to geographic coverage, we travel as far north as manchester across to Leeds and as far south as bristol across to the start of the M1. We never venture into London or Lincolnshire.

Ok , so he’s has committed the murder at the rear of the pub , he has had to conceal / hide the body . Given the amount of activity close to where Lindsay was last seen I don’t think she was there. MOO is she may have been taken closer to where the boy lived then possibly brought back to the cemetery area when LE activity had moved elsewhere. Again this leads me to believe he may have had help . It’s all a bit complexed to be the actions of a 16 year old given the timescale.

12:00pm Uk today:
Police are still in Accrington cemetery at the bottom end near to the discovery site. They have got workmen clearing the bushes, over growth etc and are searching behind them as they clear. 2 sections that where once overgrown now look freshly cut back.
Anything locally happening since this ?

I've got a Huawei. Don't know much about what's under the hood, but, they're damned good

How far is that from Accrington, if you know?

Burnley Road leads to Huncoat so officially it may be classed as Huncoat but to residents I'd call it Accrington

Sort of o/t.....
I am old school and am still amazed at the abilities of the internet. It’s so nice to learn about different WS members and their varied interests & hobbies from thousands of miles away......we so appreciate that you share that knowledge here with us. I find it fascinating that we can have this info so readily available to us now......I grew up with a set of encyclopedias and that was it!
